Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which severely limits the development of ideas. While you mention both views, the discussion is superficial and lacks the necessary depth required for an academic essay. The prompt asks for a discussion of both views and your own opinion, but the arguments provided are underdeveloped and lack supporting evidence or logical expansion. For example, the point about cosmetic companies is mentioned but not fully explained in relation to the prompt's core question about persuasion versus indifference. To improve, you must expand each paragraph with detailed explanations and relevant examples to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a more comprehensive understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While you use some transition words like 'Moreover' and 'For example', the connection between sentences is often mechanical or unclear. The introduction is abrupt and does not clearly outline the two sides of the argument. Furthermore, the conclusion is very brief and does not effectively summarize the main points or provide a cohesive final thought. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that links back to the main argument, creating a smoother flow of ideas throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'staring of movie' (likely meaning 'start') and 'endorge' (likely meaning 'endorse'). You rely on basic vocabulary, which prevents you from expressing complex ideas with precision. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a broader range of topic-specific vocabulary related to advertising and consumer behavior. Additionally, pay close attention to spelling and word formation. Expanding your vocabulary through reading academic texts and practicing collocations will help you convey your arguments more effectively and naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with article usage ('the advertisement'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. For instance, 'Everyone advertise their product' should be 'Everyone advertises their products'. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralization. Once you have a solid foundation, try to incorporate more complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
