Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the response is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of the argument. While the main points regarding targeted advertising and ad-avoidance are relevant, they lack the depth required for a higher band score. To improve, you must ensure you meet the word count requirement and provide a fully developed conclusion that reinforces your position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as starting sentences with 'So' or 'Also'. The transition between the two viewpoints is clear, but the lack of a completed conclusion disrupts the overall flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the logical progression is hindered by the abrupt ending of the text. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring a cohesive structure throughout will help improve this score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher levels. There is frequent repetition of the word 'advertise' (used as a noun, which is incorrect; it should be 'advertisement' or 'advertising'). Other word choice errors, such as 'in the are of' (likely 'era') and 'to the sell or products', impede clarity. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using correct terminology and expanding your range of collocations to avoid repetitive and inaccurate phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect readability. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('manufacturers has', 'person who search') and incorrect article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with sentence fragments like 'Which can not promote things in a good way.' While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and avoiding sentence fragments will significantly improve your accuracy.
