Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, it is frequently argued that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things, while conversely, some people do believe that we do not take them serious anymore. This essay will discuss both views before presenting my own opinion.

Advertising has played a key-role in our daily lives and has made our lives reliable with several ways. Firstly, whenever a person starts a new business or opens a new franchise of a registered shop, they advertise it on different social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. The main reason for advertising is to attain public's attention. Locals see advertisement and go on there to buy good of their interests. Moreover, when residents see if the newly opened branch or franchise is near to them then they will definitely head to that one instead of going to the far one which is time consuming.

Conversely, some citizens do believe that nowadays, advertising a thing is so common that we ignore it. That's true. Internet has become globally pervasive that we can see advertising of one company in the abroad on internet even if we do not have access to it. In this way, we ignore it completely. this viewpoint is supported by the fact. Additionally, we also visualize things that are advertised by the companies we are not keen to buy or have a little or no interest. So, we also ignore the advertising.

From my perspective, advertising is really beneficial at persuading us to buy goods and seems more convenient because it can be helpful in several ways.

To be concluded, I think that advertising is a beneficial thing and we must take it seriously.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on advertising—its persuasiveness and the notion that it is too common to be noticed—and presents the student's own opinion. The ideas are generally relevant, though some arguments are slightly repetitive or under-developed. For example, the point about opening a new franchise or business is somewhat generic and loosely tied back to the core debate. The student maintains a clear position throughout, concluding that advertising is beneficial. While the arguments could be extended further for a higher band, the task requirements are adequately met overall.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Phrases like 'That's true' and 'this viewpoint is supported by the fact' are abrupt or awkwardly integrated. Referencing is also slightly unclear in places, such as 'go on there' or 'advertising of one company in the abroad on internet'. Overall, the logical progression is present, but cohesive devices need smoother management.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'pervasive', 'franchise', and 'conversely'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations that slightly impede natural flow, such as 'take them serious' instead of 'seriously', 'reliable with several ways', and 'in the abroad'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but precision in word choice requires further development to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional and relative clauses ('whenever a person starts...', 'even if we do not have access...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense consistency, prepositions, and sentence fragments, such as 'Internet has become globally pervasive' (missing an article) and 'this viewpoint is supported by the fact' (left hanging without a following clause). These errors occasionally cause mild difficulty for the reader.
