Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era , advertising has become a part of everyday life. some people think that it is very successful in encouraging people to buy products, while others believe it has become so common that people no longer notice it. This essay will not only discuss both viewpoints in this upcoming paragraph but also highlight my opinion.

To commence with, among the countless reasons in support of the given notion, the first and the foremost is attractive videos and colorful pictures. To explain it, advertising can strongly influence people buying decisions.Companies use attractive images, catchy music, and famous celebrities to promote their products. As a result, many people become interested and decide to purchase items they had not planned to buy. In addition, online advertisements are often based on users interest , aking them more effective. For example, when famous cricketers and actors advertise a sports shoe or other brands, many fans become interested and buy it.

However, there are some reasons which are associated with no longer pay attention. The prominent one is see many ads in daily routine. In other words , many people pay little attention to advertisements because they see them everywhere. They always skip ads while watching videos or ignore promotional posts on social media . Furthermore, customers are more likely to trust online reviews and recommendations from friends than advertisements , so traditional advertising has become less powerful .

In conclusion, although people are exposed too many advertisements today, yet according to me advertising still plays an important role in influencing consumer behaviour, especially through personalised online marketing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on advertising—its effectiveness in persuading buyers and its commonality leading to indifference—while clearly stating the writer's own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the use of celebrities and online personalization in the second paragraph, and ad-skipping behaviors in the third. However, the development of ideas tends to be slightly generalized rather than deeply elaborated, which places the response securely at Band 6.5 to 7. The position is clear throughout, and the main arguments directly relate to the prompt requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The response is appropriately divided into introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'To commence with', 'In addition', and 'However'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently. However, there are some minor cohesive and mechanical flaws, such as 'associated with no longer pay attention' and referencing issues in sentence transitions, meaning the cohesion can occasionally feel slightly mechanical. Overall, the logical structure is well-maintained and easy to follow, supporting a solid Band 6.5 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'contemporary era', 'prominent', 'consumer behaviour', and 'personalised online marketing'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'associated with no longer pay attention', 'see many ads in daily routine' (instead of seeing many ads in our daily routine), and typographical errors like 'aking' (making) and missing spaces around punctuation. Because these lexical errors do not impede communication but demonstrate some inaccuracy with less common phrases, a Band 6.0 is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses and conditional-style structures (e.g., 'when famous cricketers and actors advertise... many fans become interested'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, such as missing capital letters ('some people think'), spacing errors around commas and periods, and awkward phrasing like 'exposed too many advertisements' (to many) and 'according to me'. While these errors rarely impede communication, they persist across the text, preventing the response from achieving a higher band. The control of grammar is indicative of a Band 6.0.
