Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response touches upon both views mentioned in the prompt, noting that advertising helps people purchase things while also acknowledging drawbacks such as scams and intrusion. However, the development of ideas is severely limited and the essay stops abruptly mid-sentence. The student provides a personal opinion ('I have mixed opinion with this statement'), but the arguments remain underdeveloped, simplistic, and lack extension. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 208 words compared to the required 250 minimum. This results in an under-length penalty under Task Achievement, reflecting partial coverage of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay is divided into short paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body, and partial conclusion structure. However, the logical progression is weak and ideas are disjointed. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as 'To begin, There are several benefits' and 'Now I will illustrate the disadvantages'. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the abrupt ending prevents any successful overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted but poorly executed, with very short, disconnected sentences that impede smooth reading.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, heavily relying on simple words such as 'things', 'good', 'people', and 'shopping'. There are frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as 'any type of buy things', 'advertising have good impact', and 'breake the social interaction'. Attempts at less common vocabulary are either inaccurate or awkward, such as 'explore the minds'. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'sails' instead of 'sales' and 'age' instead of 'ago'. The lexical range is minimally adequate for basic communication but insufficient for an academic task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and frequently faulty sentence structures. There are persistent, basic errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'advertising have good impact', 'its a highly beneficial us', and 'it is a more general we can not give the much time'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are poorly controlled, leading to fragmented expressions. Complex structures are rare and almost always inaccurate. These errors frequently cause difficulty and strain for the reader.
