Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student addresses both views regarding advertising and provides a clear personal opinion. The main ideas are presented, such as the influence of famous personalities and the skepticism towards social media influencers. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat superficial. For instance, the discussion on AI-generated advertisements and untrustworthy actors is briefly touched upon without full extension. Additionally, the response suffers from a significant under-length issue, containing only 234 words, which falls short of the mandatory 250-word minimum requirement. This directly impacts the completeness and depth of task fulfillment, pulling the score down to Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into four paragraphs with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward transitions and mechanical cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' used somewhat repetitively. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'It means, customers get hocked by products' and 'Human did not attracts by these adds.' Paragraphing is present, but the overall logical flow and paragraph transitions need better management to achieve a higher band. Considering these factors, a Band 5.5 is appropriate for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples of errors include 'advertisments' instead of advertisements, 'circulated' instead of surrounded, 'staff' instead of stuff, 'adds' instead of ads, 'hocked' instead of hooked, 'favourate' instead of favourite, 'androes' instead of endorses, 'unfamous' instead of lesser-known, 'untrustable' instead of untrustworthy, and 'seeling' instead of selling. While the student attempts less common vocabulary, the high frequency of lexical inaccuracies places this performance firmly at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text displays a mix of simple and attempted complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is weak throughout. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions. Examples include 'advertisements made us to buy staff', 'While other believes', 'Human did not attracts by these adds', 'no pay any attention', 'does not effect', and 'I believed'. Punctuation is also erratic in places. Although the meaning can mostly be discerned despite the errors, the frequency of basic grammatical mistakes prevents the essay from reaching Band 6.0. A score of 5.0 reflects the limited control over complex structures and persistent inaccuracies.
