Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on advertising—its effectiveness in persuading buyers versus the notion that people ignore it due to overexposure—and includes a clear personal opinion. The student attempts to develop ideas, such as mentioning the comparison of shoe prices and online toy purchasing risks. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or repetitive, and the reasoning tends to generalise. For instance, the transition from toy advertisements to the conclusion lacks deeper extension. Because all task requirements are covered with a discernible position, the response comfortably satisfies the criteria for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, maintaining a coherent overall arrangement. Paragraphing is utilised, though paragraph breaks and transitions could be more polished. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'On one side', 'For example', and 'In conclusion', but referencing and linking are occasionally mechanical or repetitive (e.g., repeating 'On the other side' and 'In my opinion' multiple times). While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the mechanical nature of the cohesive devices and minor structural awkwardness place this response firmly at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'significant source', 'comparision', and 'premium class'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'persue' instead of 'persuade', 'speical', 'desire' instead of desired, 'cheap amount' instead of low price, 'showoff', 'recieved', 'benificial', and 'thier'. While these errors do not severely impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the lexical score from reaching Band 6.0 fully, though it sits on the border; given the density of basic spelling slips, a Band 5.5 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional or relative-like clauses ('as they think that to follow the advertisements is boring'). However, there is a high frequency of grammatical errors, punctuation issues, and awkward phrasing, including comma splices and run-on sentences ('This essay will discuss both point of views as well as my opinion.', 'Advertising the items provide a comparision...'). Subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'Advertising... provide', 'advertisements have') also occur. Because errors are frequent and recurrent across simple and complex forms, the grammar aligns with Band 5.0.
