Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on advertising and providing an opinion, though the position shifts towards the end of the essay when discussing product quality. The ideas are relevant and present throughout the essay, but they are somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly in the body paragraphs which rely on repetitive explanations rather than extended supporting details. For instance, the first body paragraph merely restates that advertising catches attention and forces people to buy. The conclusion introduces a new point regarding product quality and consumer disappointment rather than summarising the main arguments presented in the body. These features align the response with Band 5.0, as the task is addressed, but the development of ideas lacks depth and clarity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay has a basic organisational structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is weakened by inappropriate transitional phrases, such as 'Moving towards remedies,' which shifts the focus away from the discussion of the two views, and 'Following the analyzation,' which introduces the conclusion awkwardly. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by mechanical and inaccurate cohesive devices, such as 'The utmost cosideration is that' and 'The next compelling sanity is that.' Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical repetition of transitional phrasing indicates a reliance on memorised templates rather than flexible cohesion, placing this response at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is limited and contains numerous spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally impede communication. Throughout the text, there are frequent misspellings and incorrect word forms, such as 'salling' for selling, 'businsess' for businesses, 'atteraction' for attention, 'advertizing' for advertising, 'cosideration' for consideration, 'successfull' for successful, 'covence' for convince, 'attracive' for attractive, 'cosumers' for consumers, 'preferance' for preference, 'adress' for address, and 'disappointted' for disappointed. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary related to the topic, the high density of errors and basic word choices restrict the lexical score to Band 4.0, as the errors strain the reader and reflect a basic, repetitive vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that frequently contain serious errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'advertisment is no longer work,' 'the era of advertisment is end,' 'people buy different products on there own preferance,' and 'the quality of the product are not good.' Punctuation and sentence boundaries are generally maintained, but errors are pervasive throughout nearly every sentence, distorting meaning in places and causing significant difficulty for the reader. These persistent grammatical inaccuracies and limited control over complex structures place the performance at a Band 4.0 level.
