Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response touches upon both views regarding advertising and attempts to provide a personal opinion. However, the length requirement of at least 250 words is not met, as the student's response contains only 212 words. Due to this under-length penalty and the somewhat limited development of ideas—such as repeating points about products being useful or misleading without adding deeper supporting evidence—the response falls under the Band 5 descriptor. The position is stated, but ideas remain underdeveloped and the task is only partially fulfilled.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, reflecting an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a basic attempt to sequence ideas logically, starting with the introduction of both views followed by separate body paragraphs for each perspective. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on phrases like 'with the help of advertising' and 'other people argue'. Referencing can also be unclear, such as 'both type of people have a right fact'. Overall organisation is present, but progression is limited.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical range is quite limited and repetitive. The student uses basic vocabulary such as 'good', 'products', and 'things', and makes noticeable word choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'belived', 'usuall', 'potenial', 'benificall', 'easyness', and 'chossing'. While communication is generally maintained despite these errors, the frequent inaccuracies and lack of sophisticated phrasing place this response firmly in the Band 5 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple and clumsy compound sentences. There are frequent and systematic errors in tense usage ('belived', 'thinked', 'knows'), subject-verb agreement ('a lot argued', 'every brand... advertising'), and word formation. Attempts at complex structures often result in faulty grammar and awkward phrasing, such as 'and a lot argued that digital advertising is very usuall and no any body prefer it'. These errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader.
