Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response discusses both views regarding advertising and provides a personal opinion as required by the prompt. However, there are significant limitations in development and execution. Crucially, the length requirement of 250 words is not met, as the student's response contains only 205 words. This results in a negative penalty for task under-length. While the writer attempts to present arguments for both sides (persuasive power versus commonality leading to indifference), the ideas remain underdeveloped and lack sufficient elaboration. For instance, the discussion on how advertising connects to emotions is superficial and abruptly concluded. Furthermore, the positioning in the introduction is somewhat contradictory ('partially agree') without clearly mapping out the discussion structure. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, aligning closely with a Band 5 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organization, utilizing paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, the overall progression is disrupted by mechanical and faulty cohesive devices. The transitions used, such as 'To commence with the foremost reason' and 'On other hand', are awkward and non-standard. Referencing and linking between sentences are frequently disjointed, as seen in the abrupt shift from the BBC article example back to the conclusion without adequate synthesis. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final conclusion is merely a fragmented single sentence that fails to properly summarize the main points. These coherence and cohesion issues place the writing firmly in the Band 5 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task. There are several noticeable spelling errors ('contemorary', 'arguement', 'paragarphs', 'sucess', 'telivisions', 'repeately', 'distrusting', 'repetative') and word-form issues ('promotion assist', 'advertising include') that cause some difficulty for the reader and detract from the overall quality. While the writer attempts some less common terms like 'prevalent' and 'inhabitants', the lexical control is weak overall. Repetitive phrasing and incorrect collocations, such as 'putting attention on it' instead of 'paying attention to it', prevent the response from achieving a higher band score, making Band 5 an accurate reflection of the lexical range and accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, heavily relying on simple sentences alongside poorly constructed complex attempts. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('a survey accomplished by indian marketing association'), incorrect verb forms ('promotion assist', 'advertising include'), and punctuation errors. For example, the sentence 'While other think that marketing is prevalent and will not get attention' lacks proper subject-verb agreement and a main clause resolution. Another instance is 'therefore it become so overload', which contains tense and word-class errors. These frequent mistakes cause strain and difficulty for the reader, matching the descriptors for a Band 5 score.
