IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Selling products to consumers are not an easy task. Moreover, its like convensing them to buy things out of will because the thing may not be much useful for them. In this regard, advierstment plays a vitol role in product marketing. It instigates the consumer to buy things.
Advertisment of a product with a catchy tagline would be a plus thing. People would get eaisly attractted by the graphics. If its a car selling advertiment, then a person from the industry with a strong influence on the people's mind regading the car, would get hired. This would be a great deal if company runs a campaign with the influential person.
On the contrasy, advertisment nowadays is very common thing to attract
customers. People are occupied in their daily lifes that they barely pay attention to the advertiment. Advertiment has become normal in the society. Every other billboard on the roads have some sorts of advertiments. Increased number of adds is ultimately affecting the purpose of advertiments beacuse they barely get noticed.Talking about online advertiments, people has the autonomy to ignore the adds.
As from my prespective, advertising on streets and billboards are of no use.
People usually dont pay much attention. However, popular influenced people would get their attention if they are hired for the product campaign. Secondly, in-person advertisment would be a good deal. If company has to sell their perfumes, then they should sprayed them on customers' hand and by telling them detailed notes of the particular scents.
Lastly, advertising is good if it is in-person. In addtion to it, it also involves the good relation with customers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student addresses the two views presented in the prompt: that advertising is successful at persuading buyers, and that it is too common to be noticed. A personal opinion is also provided, leaning towards in-person advertising and influencer marketing. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on billboards and street advertising lacks depth and relies on sweeping statements rather than fully extended arguments. Furthermore, there are some minor shifts in focus, particularly towards the end where the essay fixates heavily on in-person sampling and perfumes. While all parts of the prompt are touched upon, the overall development places this response firmly at the Band 5 level, as ideas remain somewhat under-developed and general.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic overall organisation, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing the opposing views, and a concluding thought. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic and repetitive phrasing. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs are often disjointed and brief, particularly the final one-sentence paragraph. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and sometimes inaccurately, such as 'On the contrasy' and 'As from my prespective', which detracts from the flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, leaving the reader to deduce connections between sentences. This structural instability and mechanical use of cohesive devices reflect Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Words such as 'convensing', 'advierstment', 'vitol', 'eaisly', 'attractted', 'regading', 'contrasy', 'lifes', 'adds', and 'prespective' highlight frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. While the writer attempts some less common terms like 'autonomy' and 'campaign', the execution is flawed due to persistent inaccuracies. The repetitive use of 'advertistment' and its misspellings further limits the lexical score. This performance aligns with Band 5, where noticeable errors constrain the precision of communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but the range of structures is restricted and control is inconsistent. There are numerous grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues in 'Selling products to consumers are not an easy task' and 'Every other billboard on the roads have'. Additionally, prepositional and article errors are frequent, as seen in 'on the people's mind' and 'people has the autonomy'. These frequent errors require the reader to decode the meaning and can cause some difficulty, placing the grammatical performance at a Band 5 level.
