Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response attempts to address both views outlined in the prompt regarding the effectiveness and ubiquity of advertising, as well as providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is severely limited and repetitive. Throughout the essay, the writer continually circles back to the same basic notions—such as advertising teaching people how to buy things or being too common to notice—without extending or supporting them with clear examples or detailed arguments. For instance, statements like "advertising is a successful at us although advertising persuading buy many kind of things" lack clarity and substantive expansion. Because the ideas remain undeveloped and lack logical progression, the response falls within the Band 4 descriptor, where the task is addressed only minimally or tangentially due to repetition and lack of clear elaboration.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The organisational structure of the essay is highly problematic. Although the student attempts to use paragraph breaks to separate opposing views, the progression of ideas within and between paragraphs is largely absent. Sentences are disjointed, and there is a heavy reliance on repetitive phrasing and abrupt transitions such as "So" and "However" without clear logical connection. For example, sentences like "So ,advertising is extreamly sucessful persuading to buy thing .On the other hand some people says that advertising is not extreamly sucessful" demonstrate a lack of cohesive devices and logical flow. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it very difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. This level of organisation corresponds closely to the Band 4 descriptor, where information and ideas are not arranged coherently.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used throughout the response is extremely basic, repetitive, and restricted to a very narrow range of words related to the prompt, such as "advertising", "buy", "things", and "common". There are numerous spelling errors and incorrect word forms, including "extremly" instead of extremely, "sucessful" instead of successful, "prasuading" instead of persuading, and "bealive" instead of believe. The student attempts to use a few slightly less common words like "persuading", but inaccurate word choice and severe spelling mistakes throughout the text impede communication and strain the reader. This performance aligns with Band 4, where vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and errors consistently strain the reader's understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting almost entirely of simple sentences that are frequently plagued by basic structural errors. There is a complete lack of control over standard grammatical rules, resulting in numerous run-on sentences, missing verbs, and incorrect verb forms. Examples include "Some people says that advertising is extremly sucessful..." (subject-verb agreement error) and "it help us to how to buy a things how to advertise..." (faulty sentence structure). Punctuation is also misused throughout the essay, with spaces incorrectly placed before commas and periods. These frequent and severe errors distort meaning across almost every sentence, placing the response firmly in Band 4.
