IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is argue that advertising is so usual that we even don't bother other argue it is very attractive that we even cann't stop our selves to buy stuff. In this essay, i am going to discuss both views.
From my perspective, nowadays adds are promoting in such a different way that we buy the product rather we need it or not. The marketing startegies are awesome, they hire new models and collaborate with the famous tiktokers and instragram influencers. When we saw our favourite vlogers using new products and giving good reviews, we buy the same product. For instance, cosmatic companies are hiring beautiful faces when we saw these faces we feel curious to get that type of skin. There is another marketing strategy in which they gave heavy discounts on products and individuals buy these products because they are on sale and cheaper.
On the other hand, some advertisements are so irritating that we don't want to see, such as pop up adds and wahatsapp adds. In our daily routine when we see these types of irrelevant adds we stop seeing, even though some people pay to stop adds. For example, Pepsi company is now advertising through social media and tv adds poeple are now used of it , they don't pay attention to it.
In conclusion, Companies are now becoming successful by advertising their products on tv, instragram and even through discounts, through these strategies more people buy the product. In contrast, random adds are no longer in attention.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on advertising and providing a clear personal opinion that marketing strategies make us buy products regardless of need. The ideas are generally relevant, but they tend to be somewhat generalized and under-developed due to limited elaboration. For example, the mention of cosmetic companies and TikTok influencers touches upon valid points, but the arguments remain brief and lack deeper support. The position is clear throughout the essay, meeting the criteria for a Band 5.5 to 6.0 level of task response. However, because the development is somewhat repetitive and basic in its reasoning, it best aligns with a Band 5.5 score under the official descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some overall organization with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, progression is somewhat hindered by mechanical transitions and repetitive cohesive devices such as 'In this essay' and 'For instance'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body paragraphs lack smooth internal flow and logical linkage between sentences. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in pronoun usage like 'they' and 'these'. While the essay is coherent enough to follow without major strain, the heavy reliance on basic cohesive devices and somewhat faulty referencing points to a Band 5.5 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary range used in the essay is limited and barely adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common words, such as 'collaborate', 'influencers', and 'strategies', but these are accompanied by frequent spelling and word-choice errors, including 'usual' instead of 'usual/common', 'adds' instead of 'ads', 'startegies', 'cosmatic', 'vlogers', 'wahatsapp', and 'poeple'. Furthermore, morphological errors like 'used of it' instead of 'used to it' and 'cann't' impact clarity. Although communication is not entirely impeded, the high frequency of lexical inaccuracies restricts the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. Examples include run-on sentences and punctuation issues, such as 'It is argue that advertising is so usual that we even don't bother other argue it is very attractive that we even cann't stop our selves to buy stuff.' There are numerous grammatical errors involving verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and missing articles. The high density of errors throughout the text causes noticeable difficulty for the reader and means that error-free sentences are infrequent, placing this response firmly in the Band 5.0 category.
