Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, coming in at only 193 words, which heavily impacts task completion. The student attempts to discuss both views regarding advertising and its effectiveness versus overexposure, but the ideas remain very limited and underdeveloped. For instance, the points about cost and boosting sales are stated without sufficient extension or detailed examples. Furthermore, the final paragraph cuts off mid-sentence ('to conclude with my own'), meaning a clear personal position is never fully articulated or established by the end of the essay. These factors align the response with a Band 4.0 descriptor for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some organizational structure with basic introduction, body, and concluding gestures, but the progression breaks down significantly due to the incomplete ending. While transitional markers such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Additionally' are attempted, referencing and cohesion are frequently faulty or mechanical. For example, phrases like 'the same your product' demonstrate awkward referencing. Paragraphing is also disrupted, with body paragraphs lacking unified focus and the final paragraph failing to form a complete thought. Overall, the logical arrangement suffers from these mechanical errors, placing it at a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors that occasionally strain the reader or impede smooth communication. Examples of non-standard usage and word choice errors include 'persuade to buy' instead of 'be persuaded to buy', 'definatily', 'quit expensive' instead of 'quite expensive', and 'grantee in your selling'. While the student makes an attempt at less common items such as 'customer loyalty', the high frequency of spelling and collocation errors limits the range. This performance corresponds to a Band 4.0 lexical profile.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The student uses a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex constructions. Frequent grammatical errors occur throughout the text, such as missing auxiliary verbs ('if people will see'), incorrect subject-verb agreement or existential structures ('their are also some pros'), and unfinished sentences ('to conclude with my own'). These errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and mean that error-free sentences are the exception rather than the majority. This demonstrates typical Band 4.0 grammatical control.
