IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
so let's discuss about both the scenario, so according to me I agree on this point that advertising can help a brand to grow if we first talk about how then i believe that marketing helps you to grow the brand, if you do the right advertisement it can help people know about the product. I believe that if you are not willing to spend most of the time on certain product because being on a budge. Since these days people spent most of the time scrolling on social media apps like Instagram and Facebook etc. They see the ads of the product advertise in a way that they don't resist in buying the product, the brands appeal the client by the advertisement in form of promotion an sales discounts, which lean the client towards getting the product.
but on the other side if we talk about that people don't think advertising is helping the brands to grow i highly disagree in this case scenario as people do pay attention to the ads those are the main sources of the sales these days and it help the brand to sell there product, where as i do believe that people give less attention to the billboards these days but if you are doing right form of advertisement on social media that is the main source of the sales and divert people to purchase the product.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both views regarding advertising and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive, with arguments revolving around social media marketing without sufficient extension or depth. Furthermore, the response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 234 words compared to the required 250 words, which negatively impacts the overall task achievement score. The position is stated, but the overall execution remains underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text suffers significantly from a lack of proper paragraphing, as it is written as two massive run-on blocks of text. There is an over-reliance on conversational filler and informal connectors such as "so let's discuss" and "if we first talk about how then i believe". Logical progression is obscured by excessively long, convoluted sentences that lack appropriate punctuation. While cohesive devices are present, they are often used inaccurately or repetitively, resulting in poor overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on everyday words like "thing", "product", "brand", and "help". There are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as "being on a budge" instead of "on a budget", and "the brands appeal the client". Less common lexical items are attempted with frequent inaccuracies in form and usage, which occasionally strain the reader's understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical structure is heavily dominated by run-on sentences joined by commas rather than full stops or correct subordinating conjunctions. For instance, the opening sentence spans several lines without proper boundary markers. There are frequent errors in verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement (e.g., "people spent" instead of "spend", "it help" instead of "helps"), and missing capitalization. Complex structures are attempted but are generally faulty and lack control.
