Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many argue that advertisements have pushed us towards over consumption, while others believe that advertising very common and people hardly pay attention to it. I strongly believe that advertising has lead a generation of implusive consumers and in this eassy we will discuss the both views.

Advertisement is the oldest method to attract individuals to the product, and with the rise of digital ads these companies can directly transmit their product through digital platforms. The advestising companies clearly understand the behaviour of consumers. As a result, public celebrities are endorsed to promote and consume products which leads to individuals buying same product. Furthermore, ads are so compaling that buys newest gadgets satisifies the craving of owning latest and best objects. For instance, Apple company has extremely successful ads to persue individuals to buy their latest iphones.

On the other hand, advertisement is so common in this world that many of these ads ever attracts attention of any individuals. Many individuals even donot rememeber watching ads of any products although it is everywhere. For example, youtube plays ads with every video in their platfrom however most of them are skipped after 5 seconds, hence it shows a pattern where individuals have learned to ignore almost everything that they don't want to see. Consequently, constant exposer of advertisements of different forms has helped many individuals to avoid these as much as they can.

In conclusion, i strongly believe advertisement have push many individuals towards impulsive buying products but it's only the products they always wanted buy and consume. It can also be noted that individuals aviod and ignore advertisements as much they can until the product is something they wanted.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that advertising successfully persuades buyers and that it is too common to be noticed—while also providing a clear personal opinion. For example, the writer outlines how digital platforms and public celebrity endorsements encourage consumerism, and contrasts this with the habit of skipping YouTube ads. However, some ideas remain under-developed. The exploration of why people ignore ads lacks deeper extension, and the conclusion is slightly repetitive regarding impulsive buying. Overall, the ideas presented are relevant and cover the requirements of the task, meeting the expected criteria for this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing viewpoints. Cohesive devices are employed to connect concepts, such as 'On the other hand' and 'For instance', which demonstrate a clear logical organization. However, some cohesive referencing is slightly mechanical, and certain transitions feel abrupt. To reach a higher band, the use of cohesive devices could be managed with greater flexibility, ensuring smoother links between sentences and enhanced overall flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'over consumption', 'implusive', and 'celebrity are endorsed'. There are, however, notable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'implusive' instead of impulsive, 'eassy' instead of essay, 'advestising' instead of advertising, and 'compaling' instead of compelling. Additionally, phrasing like 'ads is so common' and 'constant exposer' reveals minor inaccuracies. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score because precision and control are occasionally lacking when attempting more ambitious lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and conditional-like consequences, as seen in 'ads are so compaling that buys newest gadgets satisifies the craving'. There are several errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ('advertising has lead', 'celebrity are endorsed', 'buys newest gadgets satisifies'), article omissions, and prepositions ('ignored almost everything that they don't want to see'). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. A greater degree of accuracy in complex structures would be needed to move to a higher band.
