Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that advertising is successful at persuading buyers and that it is too common to be noticed—alongside a personal opinion. However, the ideas are limited and under-developed, which keeps the response at this level. While the writer attempts to present arguments in the body paragraphs, such as the mention of manufacturing details or a survey in Germany, the explanations remain brief and repetitive. The position is stated throughout the essay, but the lack of fully extended supporting details prevents a higher score. To improve, the writer needs to expand on examples with more specific explanations and delve deeper into why advertisements either succeed or fail to capture consumer attention.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, using standard organizational markers like 'On the one hand' and 'While on the other hand' to separate viewpoints. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen with repetitive phrasing and transitional links that feel somewhat abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronouns in 'as it gain the attraction of people', which make it hard to track whether the writer refers to the company or the advertisement. To progress, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that referencing pronouns explicitly connect to their intended antecedents to improve the logical flow between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, but it exhibits noticeable errors that may cause some difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'social proof' and 'weightage', but struggles with word choice, word form, and collocations throughout the text. Examples of lexical strain include phrases like 'successful method of attract people for buy things', 'people attraction gain', and 'survey conduct'. Spelling and morphological inaccuracies are frequent, such as 'give' instead of 'gives' or 'provide' instead of 'provides'. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire with accurate word forms, learn standard collocations, and minimize basic word-choice errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but the range of structures is limited and frequent errors occur. Many complex sentence attempts are faulty, characterized by missing or misused auxiliary verbs, incorrect prepositions, and grammatical incongruities such as 'people starting stop believing on advertisement'. Punctuation and article usage are also problematic, which causes occasional difficulty for the reader in parsing the exact meaning. To improve, the writer needs to exercise greater control over basic sentence construction, ensure correct verb forms and tense consistency, and reduce the frequency of grammatical errors across both simple and complex structures.
