Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on advertising and offering an opinion, which places it within the mid-range of expectations. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times repetitive. For instance, the discussion relies heavily on a single example regarding a car company in India and local consumer trust, rather than exploring broader societal or economic perspectives. The student's position is discernible in the conclusion and body paragraphs, but the arguments lack sufficient depth and extension. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to expand on the provided arguments with more fully developed explanations and varied examples that thoroughly address all parts of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a discernible overall structure with distinct paragraph divisions representing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by inadequate and mechanical use of cohesive devices, such as repetitive transitions like 'on the one hand' and 'on the another hand'. Referencing is also unclear at times, leaving relationships between sentences ambiguous. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal logical flow is compromised by run-on sentences and a lack of smooth signposting. To improve in this area, the student should ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally and accurately, and that each paragraph follows a clear, progressive line of thought.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, containing noticeable errors that frequently cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent spelling mistakes, such as 'commanly', 'loanched', 'serculate', 'comptition', 'wan', and 'awair', alongside incorrect word forms and awkward collocations like 'vehicles company' and 'gain popularity is very few time'. The range of vocabulary is restricted, and attempts to use less common words generally result in noticeable errors that hinder smooth communication. To achieve a stronger outcome, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to word formation, and ensure accurate spelling for basic and intermediate terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical structures employed are limited, consisting mainly of simple sentences alongside faulty attempts at complex forms. Frequent errors are present across various structures, including verb tense inconsistencies, article omissions, pluralisation errors, and prepositions within grammatical patterns, such as 'trust on advertising' instead of 'trust advertising'. Run-on sentences without appropriate punctuation further reduce clarity, and these frequent errors often cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate greater control over basic sentence boundaries, improve subject-verb agreement, and develop accuracy in complex grammatical constructions.
