Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
Please note that the response contains 226 words and did not meet the minimum requirement of 250 words. Additionally, 28 words copied directly from the task prompt were not counted. Regarding the content, the response addresses the task only partially. While it touches upon both views regarding advertising and attempts to provide an opinion, the position is not always clear, and the ideas are limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of government free schemes and bill boards like 'recently goverment annouce free bikes for students' lacks sufficient expansion and clear connection to the prompt's core question about persuasion versus saturation. To reach a higher level, you must write at least 250 words and fully develop your ideas and position with well-supported arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response shows a lack of proper overall organization and progression. There is a complete absence of paragraphing, resulting in one long, dense block of text that makes it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of ideas. Furthermore, cohesive devices are either inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, often relying on basic run-on transitions like 'on the other hand' and 'for example' without proper punctuation or separation between sentences. Referencing is also not always clear, leading to confusion between the two views and your own opinion. To improve in this area, you need to divide your essay into clear paragraphs—introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion—and use cohesive devices accurately to link your sentences and ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary range used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about advertising and government schemes. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text, such as 'advertisment', 'attrack', 'disscount', 'annouce', 'crusial', 'achive', 'strom', and 'casue'. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader in understanding the precise meaning. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, but inaccurate spelling and word forms restrict your score. To move up to a higher band, you should expand your vocabulary range, ensure correct word forms and spellings, and use more precise terms relevant to the topic of marketing and public information.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or poorly constructed attempts at complex sentences that are heavily flawed, resulting in frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent issues with verb forms, tense consistency, missing articles, and severe punctuation errors, such as complete run-on sentences with no periods separating distinct thoughts (e.g., 'last year from strom bill board had casue main reasons for accident many people injured in my opinion...'). To achieve a higher score, you need to use a wider variety of sentence structures accurately, ensure proper subject-verb agreement, and use correct punctuation like full stops to separate your sentences clearly.
