Student answer (Band 6.5)
Adevertising has become an essential part of modern life . Some people believe that advertisments are highly effective in persuading consumers to purchase products, while other argue the people are exposed to so many advertisements that they have stopped pying attention to them . This essay will discuss both views before explaining my opinion .
On the one hand , advertising can be extermely sucessful in influancing people's buying the decisions. Compines use attractive images , persuassive language and famous personlities to make their products appear more desirable . In addition, advertisements often highlight the benefits of product and createba sense to need among consumers . For example, a person may see an advertisement for a new smartphone and decide to buy it even through their exiciting phone still works well. Therefore, effective advertisementans encourage people to purchase products and they had not origanally planed to buy.
On the other hand, advertising has become so whispread that manny peoplehave developed the habit of ignoring it. Counsumers see advertisement of television, social media, websites or mobile applications and even public transport everyday . As a result , they may automatically skip online advertisements or simply stop noticing them . Furthermore, people have become more experinced that reconising exagrrated claims and may not trust advertisements easily . For instant, many internet users immiediately scroll past promotional contenton social media because they consider it irrelevent or repetitive.
In my opinion, alought people increasingly ignore ordinary advertisements , advertising remains highly influential when it is targeted and presented effectively. Modern compines can use consumer intersts and online behaviour to show. them products and are relevent to their needs . Consequently ,advertising countinous to have a significant impact on consumer behaviour despite the large amount of promotional content people encounter.
In conclusion, advertising can persuade people to buy products , but exsessive expouser has also caused many consumers to ingnore it. I beleive that advertising is still powerful , partcularly when it is relevent and carefully targeted .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that advertising is extremely successful and that it is too common to be noticed—while presenting a clear overall position throughout. The arguments are extended and supported with relevant explanations, such as how modern companies use consumer interests and online behaviour to maintain impact. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in parts, such as claiming that consumers automatically skip online advertisements entirely, which keeps the response at this solid level rather than allowing it to reach a higher band. Ideas are generally well-extended, though some supporting details could be explored with even greater depth to fully satisfy the highest standards.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The essay demonstrates clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving smoothly from the introduction to the discussion of the two opposing views, the writer's opinion, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices are used flexibly, with appropriate transitional markers such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Furthermore', and 'Consequently'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to structure the argument. While the referencing and progression are clear, a slightly more sophisticated management of transitional phrasing would be needed to push into higher bands, as some links occasionally feel somewhat formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing sufficient range to communicate the main ideas clearly. The writer attempts less common vocabulary such as 'persuasive language', 'promotional content', and 'whispread', showing some awareness of style and collocation. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'Adevertising', 'advertisments', 'influancing', 'Compines', 'persuassive', 'extermely', 'sucessful', 'whispread', 'manny', 'Counsumers', 'experinced', 'reconising', 'exagrrated', 'instant', 'immiediately', 'irrelevent', 'alought', 'intersts', 'countinous', 'exsessive', 'expouser', 'ingnore', 'beleive', and 'partcularly'. These noticeable inaccuracies in spelling and occasional word form do not severely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score because control over less common items is inconsistent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning effectively. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('a sense to need', 'products and are relevent'), incorrect preposition usage or awkward phrasing ('buying the decisions', 'decide to buy it even through their exiciting phone still works well'), and minor punctuation slips like extra spaces before commas. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication. The sentence structures demonstrate decent variety, but a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences with flawless punctuation control is required to achieve a higher band.
