IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this digital era, big companies with huge marketing budget use techonology to make advertisments more attractive to fool people around. A group of school believes that advertising is extremely manupilative to the society forcing them to buy new things and is somehow successfull at it. Whereas, another group of school opines the former statement by stating that the marketing technique is so common nowadays that nobody is fooled by it. Both the perspectivies shall be discussed in the forthcoming paragraphs before reaching a logical conclusion.
To commence with, in this digital world nowadays promoting any product and presuading fellow people to buy the same is just a cherry on cake. Advertising is now being manupilated by using artifical intellegence making it more glosier and eye catching to the public attracting them to buy the products even though they are of no use or harmfull. Moreover, from past few decades the advertising companies with huge promotional budget have starting making adds with actors or actresses making it gain ever more popularity, even social media influencers are paid hefty amount for promoting specific items. The soceity and specially the youth blindly follow whatever is being promoted by the famous celebrities. For instance, the girls specially buys any new makeup product launched into the market without seeing the side effects offered by the specific product. But becuase of being manupilated by the advertisment they just simply purchase it.
In the sharp contrast, watching the same old monotonous adverstisments on daily basis people are bored and are not attracted to the products now; cannot be denied. The marketing companies are following the same technique of promotion like paying famous people to promote the special items but now the society is simply bored with it. But it is also true that nowadays people are not blindly relying on the marketing scheme but are actually testing the products and than make a decision to either buy or skip. People are now educated enough to first read the ingrediants involved in manufacturing of the product and then buy it if it feels safe to use rather than simply following the trend set by the manupulative adversiting companies.
On the close scrutiny, i conclude that though people are more mindfull in buying products nowadays rather than believing in the advertisments but it can not be denied that people are the victims of the ongoing trend and blindly purchasing the things promoted by the marketing companies in oder to show their level in the soceity or to just stay updated with the vouge.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that advertising is extremely persuasive and that it is too common to be noticed—and presents a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is uneven, which is characteristic of this level. While the arguments about celebrity endorsements and artificial intelligence in the second paragraph are relevant, some points are generalized or under-developed, such as the claim regarding female makeup buyers. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of support varies across paragraphs, placing the response squarely at this level of task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different perspectives. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In the sharp contrast', though some referencing and linking are slightly mechanical or awkward, indicating the transition into higher organizational bands. Overall, the information flows reasonably well, guiding the reader through the writer's arguments without significant disruption.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases like 'monotonous' and 'mindfull'. However, there are numerous noticeable errors in spelling, word form, and word choice throughout the text. Examples include 'techonology' instead of 'technology', 'manupilative' instead of 'manipulative', 'glosier' instead of 'glossier', 'intellegence' instead of 'intelligence', 'ingrediants' instead of 'ingredients', and 'vouge' instead of 'vogue'. These lexical inaccuracies and persistent spelling mistakes constrain the precision of the writing and limit the score to this band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate subordinate clauses and varied structures. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues present, such as subject-verb agreement slips ('companies ... has starting'), preposition misuse ('from past few decades'), and awkward phrasing ('than make a decision'). However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede overall communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments. Greater control over complex sentence patterns and punctuation is needed to reach higher bands.
