IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
There are different opinions about advertisments to purchase goods, some believe adverts can be absolutely beneficial to gain customer attraction and to make them buy products while other think they are less beneficial because nowadays it become very general . In my opinion adverts are helpful as they provide details about particular product moreover customers get this plaform to review about the product so this enable new customers to acess its pros and cons .
There are some belives that social media advertisments are more considerable among customers beacuse there are plenty of users for instance young people spend most of their time on instagram , so they can have this indepth idea about product detail and public views , because of that people can be safe from buying unreliable and fake product , having siad that its always worthful checking review before trusting the seller .
I would argue that to some extend advertisments are useful for getting discount , I remember last time i was watching this influencer she was promoting certain bag brand and there was option if we use her code there will be opportunity for us to get 20% discount with free delivery chargers similarly other people like me take this benefit just because of advertisments so it comes to the point that it strikes a balance between seller and buyer they can both benefit fom advertisments .
Furthermore some people point of view is that , adverts just brainwash customers and force them buy things that they don't really need moreover people think adverts are this common that nowadys customers don't pay attention because they are fedup of getting fake advertisments and thier are no such reliable source to trust becuase of this issue companies and consumers both are in trouble .
To conclude my views on this partiuclar topic I came to this point that advertisment can go hand in hand , if they are presented honeslty that can be useful but faking them creates social and economical challanges .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on advertising and providing a personal opinion, which places it securely at this level. The writer considers whether advertisements are successful at persuading buyers and whether they are ignored due to ubiquity, while offering a clear stance that they are useful when honest. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, the point regarding discounts and influencers is supported with a specific personal anecdote, whereas the counter-argument that ads merely brainwash consumers and cause social challenges is somewhat limited and under-developed. To reach higher bands, all main ideas should be equally extended with robust explanations and supporting evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the writing is divided into logical paragraphs that handle different aspects of the prompt. Nevertheless, cohesion is at times mechanical and referencing is not always clear, particularly with run-on sentences and a lack of proper punctuation between clauses. For instance, transitional phrases and cohesive devices are occasionally basic or repetitive, such as starting multiple sentences with 'furthermore' or 'similarly' without adequate separation or clear logical signposting. Improving punctuation control and diversifying cohesive ties to link sentences more smoothly would significantly enhance the overall flow and progression of the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the writer's core arguments and allowing for basic communication. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'indepth', 'unreliable', and 'economical challenges', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'advertisments', 'plaform', 'acess', 'belives', 'beacuse', 'siad', 'worthful', and 'extend' instead of extent. These minor inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score. To progress further, the writer needs to expand their range of less common lexical items, ensure greater precision in word choice and collocations, and eliminate recurrent spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. However, frequent grammatical errors and punctuation deficiencies are present throughout the text, such as run-on sentences ('...while other think they are less beneficial because nowadays it become very general'), missing articles ('particular product', 'certain bag brand'), and awkward prepositional usage. Punctuation is particularly weak, with commas frequently misapplied and capitalisation neglected in places like 'i'. While these errors rarely impede communication entirely, the persistence of basic structural mistakes and faulty complex sentences means the grammatical control aligns closely with the descriptors for this band.
