IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
A lot of individuals believe that advertising isthe biggest reson for an normal person to buy and product there days. while othere think that advertising is really comman there days that let to people normalsing them
in the first side of the discussion i beleve that ads are the biggest reason of buying more expensive tings these days becouse no one well be interested to but a product that they have not used or sow before so ads help the bands to make a custemer at a high markiting price which is callected from the consumer in the end for an example there are much better mobiles but eveyone uses an iphone becouse they made a oppion by advertising in the coustemers but in the end evey product they sell a small part of it goes to fund more ads on tv , socal madia and news papers
on the other side of the opinion its true that advertising is really common there days which made buyers not to notice them as they did in before to elaburate it in detail ads had a much higher sucess rate 20 years age becuse there was limited number of promotions for an example at that time thare were only same brand in the market who were using ads to increse the sales but in now a days every brand is dependent in the payed promotions that made an made seat amang the cunsumers to skip that part subcounsciously .
overall the sucess rate for the sale of an product had been reduced alout but its also a fact that band can get a easy groth from ads even its realy common for buyers to skip then .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on advertising and providing an opinion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the first view is supported with an explanation about brand perception and pricing, such as when discussing how everyone uses an iPhone because of advertising, the second view and the overall conclusion are somewhat under-developed and rely on generalisations rather than fully extended arguments. The position is clear throughout the text, meeting the requirements for this level, though more detailed extension of the viewpoints would be needed to reach a higher standard.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Ideas are generally grouped logically, with distinct sides of the argument addressed in separate sections. However, referencing and cohesive devices are at times mechanical or faulty, such as the transition phrases 'in the first side of the discussion' and 'on the other side of the opinion'. Furthermore, internal cohesion within sentences can be repetitive, and paragraph transitions do not always guide the reader smoothly from one point to the next, which is characteristic of this level.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts to use less common terms like 'subcounsciously', 'promotions', and 'markiting'. However, the response contains numerous noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word formation, such as 'reson', 'comman', 'normalsing', 'tings', 'becouse', 'sow', 'bands', 'custemer', 'coustemers', 'socal', 'madia', 'thare', 'payed', 'cunsumers', and 'band'. These errors reflect a limited control over lexical items and spelling, constraining the vocabulary score, although the meaning remains mostly clear despite the slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in sentence structure. However, there are frequent errors in basic grammatical patterns, punctuation, and articles, such as run-on sentences lacking proper terminal punctuation, missing plural markers, and incorrect prepositions. For example, sentences like 'while othere think that advertising is really comman there days that let to people normalsing them' exhibit faulty clause structures and agreement issues. While these errors occur regularly, they rarely impede overall communication entirely, placing the grammatical performance firmly in this category.
