Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Student answer (Band 4.0)

Advertising is basically entoscopic thing in our daily life, which basically draws your attention towards some particular product or service.

on one hand advertising plays a vital role in buying process where you get to know about the product and its features which makes easier for buyers to differentiate the products and understand it better.

on the other hand some advertising are portrayed in such a sarcastic way which leads buyers to disapointment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You introduce advertising and briefly mention two possible effects: it can inform buyers about product features, while some advertisements may disappoint them. However, the response does not adequately discuss both views in the question—whether advertising persuades people to buy and whether its ubiquity makes people ignore it—and it gives no clear personal opinion. The point about disappointment is not explained or connected to either view. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, so there is not enough development, explanation, or supporting detail to address the task. To improve, state your position clearly, discuss each view in a separate developed paragraph, and support your claims with reasons or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise contrasting points using “on one hand” and “on the other hand,” which gives the short response some direction. The ideas move from a general introduction to benefits and then a possible drawback. However, the contrast markers do not accurately introduce the two views in the prompt, and the response has no developed paragraph structure or concluding statement. The relationship between product information and the claim that advertisements disappoint buyers is also unclear. Use separate paragraphs for the two specified views, connect each point with clear explanation, and finish by stating your opinion. More precise referencing and transitions would make the progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response includes some relevant topic vocabulary, such as “product,” “service,” “features,” and “buyers,” and attempts phrases like “plays a vital role” and “differentiate the products.” However, the range is narrow, and several choices are inaccurate or awkward: “entoscopic thing” does not convey a clear meaning, “advertising” is treated as a countable plural in “some advertising,” and “disapointment” is misspelled. “Sarcastic” also seems unsuitable for describing advertisements that cause disappointment. These choices make parts of the message difficult to interpret. Build a more precise range around persuasion, exposure, consumer attention, and purchasing decisions, and check spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt a longer sentence to explain how product information helps buyers, using “which” to connect ideas, and the basic meaning is partly understandable. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening sentence has a comma splice and lacks a space after the comma; the next sentence begins with a lowercase letter and uses the incomplete pattern “makes easier for buyers.” The final sentence also has a subject–verb agreement problem in “some advertising are portrayed.” Most sentences follow similar simple patterns, so the range is limited. Practise forming complete clauses, using articles and agreement accurately, and punctuating sentence boundaries. For example, separate the opening definition from its explanation and write “makes it easier for buyers to…”
