IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
People nowadays, believe that advertising is one of the important thing that expand businesses and motivate people to buy products while others think that advertisment is no longer interesting to pay attention to it. In my opinion marketing is very necessary nowadays because people have so many choices to buy anything. In coming paragraphs i shall discuss both points and share my opinions on this
First on the one hand, people do advertisment to convey their message about which products are listed in their brand or company. In today's world of technology many brand owners do their marketing at social media platforms and also at billboards about what discounts are they offering. For example, many electronic appliances companies offer discounts to the customers just for the purpose of their marketing by printing their flexes at billboards people see and know about different offers start to show their interest in it.
On the other hand, some people are no longer pay attention in ads because they think these ads are no longer influencial and interesting. Some brand owners are not changing their content of marketing and people do feel bore by watching same promotion ads everyday. In addition, content creators are need to try some different things in order to convey their brand appearance to people.
In my point of view, marketing in digital plateforms are rapidly increasing everyday and it is important in order to grow their brands. I have seen many companies growing successfully by only investing money on marketing at social media.
To conclude that promotions and advertisments are really neccessary nowadays because without marketing your brand is always anonymouse and there is relatively greater chances of loss also some companies need to hire some creative influencers as people feel bore to watching same content everyday.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and give a personal position: advertising can help businesses reach customers, while repetitive adverts may lose people’s attention. The examples of discounts on billboards and companies using social media are relevant. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The first view is explained mainly as informing customers about offers, rather than showing clearly how advertising persuades them to buy. The second view would benefit from a specific example or explanation of how people ignore familiar promotions. Your opinion that marketing is necessary is clear in the introduction and conclusion, but the claim that companies can grow “by only investing money on marketing” is broad and not supported. Develop each point with a clearer explanation and more precise evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. This makes the overall arrangement coherent. You also use signposting such as “On the other hand” and “To conclude.” However, some transitions are mechanical or awkward: “First on the one hand” combines two signals, and “In coming paragraphs” is an unnecessary announcement. Connections within paragraphs are sometimes unclear, particularly in the billboard example, where the sequence from discounts to customers’ interest is difficult to follow. The final paragraph also combines several ideas in one long sentence. Use simpler, more precise links between claims and examples, and make sure each paragraph develops one main point in a clear order.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “discounts,” “social media platforms,” “brand owners,” and “content creators,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, word-form, and spelling errors make the writing less natural. Examples include “advertisment,” “influencial,” “digital plateforms,” and “feel bore.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “brand appearance” and “their flexes at billboards,” which may make the intended meaning unclear. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “run a campaign,” “attract consumers,” and “advertising content.” Check spelling and word forms carefully, and avoid repeating “marketing” and “ads” when a more precise alternative is available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a contrast between the two views and a reason introduced by “because.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “people are no longer pay attention” has an incorrect verb pattern, while “content creators are need to try” uses an incorrect auxiliary construction. There are also agreement and article problems in “one of the important thing,” and sentence boundaries are not consistently controlled, especially in the conclusion, which runs several ideas together. Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “i.” Practise forming accurate subject–verb patterns and use shorter sentences when expressing several connected points.
