IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argued that advertising is a certain method to conveience people to buy perticular products, while opponents believe that ad campaigns are very common and nobody pay essential attention to it. From my perspective, Advertising has a great impact to persue the customer to buy certain things.
On the one hand, Advertising is a basic tool to encourage people to buy the manufactured products. It is a fastest way to give the information about the product and it motivates the users to buy it. For example, when a product is introduced, it needs promotion and marketing for influencing, such as when Lux soap introduce its new scented soap before bring it into market, they promote it with all its new features and qualities. That attracts people and urge them to buy.
On the other hand, if people are not paying any attention to advertising, than it is not possible that they are far behind to have a proper knowedge about the innovated products. For example, individalus who don't pay any attention on advertising, they are not aware the uses and proper features of the products.
From my prespective, Advertising is a basic mechanisim to attract people and make them aware about the product, albiet they are unaware and are behind from other people to know about a beneficial product. For example, if Lipton and Supreme tea mauncaturer are not going to advertise their products in an attractive manner, people can never experience the taste of good tea.
In conclusion, Advertising is helful to conveyance the people to buy a certain thing, it gives information and attracts people and motivates them to buy a new product introduce in the market.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You present a clear general opinion that advertising can influence purchasing, and you include examples involving Lux soap and tea brands. However, the discussion of the opposing view is not fully developed: the paragraph says that people who ignore advertising lack product knowledge, rather than explaining why advertising’s ubiquity may cause people to tune it out. The response therefore addresses both views only partially, and several claims remain broad or unsupported. For instance, “people can never experience the taste of good tea” is an absolute claim that does not establish how advertising persuades consumers. To strengthen the response, explain each viewpoint fairly, develop the reasons behind it, and make your own position consistent and explicit throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, and signposts such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help identify the two sides. However, progression between ideas is limited, and the second body paragraph does not clearly explain the view that advertising is so common that people stop noticing it. The final opinion paragraph largely repeats the first body paragraph rather than adding a distinct reason. Some links are also awkward or unclear, such as “albiet they are unaware and are behind from other people,” which makes the relationship between ideas difficult to follow. Organise each paragraph around one clear claim, then connect the explanation and example directly to that claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “promotion,” “marketing,” “features,” and “attract,” so the reader can generally understand the subject. However, the range is limited and several spelling, word-form, and collocation errors make the writing less clear, including “conveience,” “persue,” “knowedge,” and “mechanisim.” Phrases such as “a certain method to” and “basic tool” are repeated or imprecise, while “far behind to have a proper knowledge” is not a natural way to express the idea. Aim to use accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “influence purchasing decisions” and “become desensitised to advertisements” would help express the task’s ideas clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “when” and “if,” but complex structures are often faulty and errors occur frequently. For example, “nobody pay” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “when Lux soap introduce its new scented soap” needs a correctly formed verb. The sentence beginning “For example, individalus who don't pay…” has an incomplete structure before its main point, and “if … than” uses an incorrect conditional connector. Articles, plurals, and punctuation also need attention, as in “a fastest way” and the run-on spacing around “market, they.” Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly connected supporting clause, then proofread agreement and verb forms.
