IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In recent years, international markets have adopted several ways to attract a huge number of customers, out of which the most common technique is advertisements.
While, some customers account it as a significant method to market the product, offenders argue that it advertisement has became something so common, we don't pay to. In the next paragraphs, i will state the reasons why i think that this initiative is extremely beneficial.
Advertising a product has became more pleasing with the emerging era of social media. Industries have adapted several strategies to market their products through several platforms, like tiktok, instagram, facebook etc. When people watch their influencers using a specific brand's products, they start admiring the products as well. For example; Huda beauty send PRs the most populars influencers of the time free of cost of on discounts to use their products while making a "get ready with me" video.
Furthermore, another way brands have made it to gain customers is to work on bringing som uniqueness in their product in comparison to other. They usually focus on enhancing the beauty of cases in which they are packed or adding elite class aesthetics to the product. Cuteness is another factor for persuading individuals towards products. For example; the international brand MIniso is generating high revenue based on the cuteness and charmness of it's products. They have adapted such an eye catching colours to their products that it seems impossible to ignore them.
At the end, i believe that advertisement is a kind of art which reflects the smart minds of producers. In my perspective, it has successfully attracted the world through product designs modifications, PR management, collaborating with social media influencers and maintaining aesthetics to make sure that customer cannot resist to buy their products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear opinion that advertising is effective, and your examples about influencer promotions and Miniso’s product design are relevant to persuasion. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the opposing view—that advertising is so widespread that people ignore it—is only briefly mentioned in the introduction and is not explained or supported. Most of the response develops reasons for your own position, so the discussion is partial. To strengthen the response, explain why repeated or intrusive advertising may be ignored, perhaps with an example, then compare that view with the influence of social media and product presentation. Make your position explicit in the introduction as well as the conclusion, and develop each main point with a clear explanation of its effect on consumers.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a concluding opinion. The body paragraphs each focus on a related way advertising can persuade consumers, and examples help readers follow the points. However, progression is limited because the opposing view is not given its own developed paragraph, and the second body paragraph adds another supporting reason without clearly connecting it to the first. Some linking expressions are mechanical or awkward, such as “Furthermore, another way,” while “At the end” does not introduce the conclusion naturally. Improve the organisation by giving each view a distinct paragraph, using transitions that show contrast and development, and making references between sentences clearer. This would create a more balanced and logical progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “influencers,” “PR management,” “aesthetics,” and “revenue,” and these choices help convey your examples. There are also some effective phrases, such as “attract a huge number of customers.” However, inaccurate word choice, spelling and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow: “offenders” is not suitable for people who disagree, “charmness” is unnatural, and “som uniqueness” contains a spelling error. Repetition of “products” and “advertisement” also limits flexibility. Aim for precise, natural expressions and check spelling and word forms. For example, use “critics” for those who hold the opposing view and “distinctive features” when describing what makes a product different.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a subordinate clause beginning “When people watch their influencers…” and a concluding sentence that lists several methods. However, errors occur frequently in verb forms, sentence construction, articles, agreement and punctuation, and some interfere with clarity. Examples include “has became” instead of “has become,” “it advertisement has became,” and the incomplete construction “we don't pay to.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in lowercase “i” and the comma after “While.” Work first on accurate basic sentence patterns and verb forms, then build longer sentences around one clear main clause. Proofread each sentence for subject–verb agreement, tense, articles and punctuation before adding further complex structures.
