Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You attempt to discuss both views and state a preference for advertising’s usefulness, so the response is relevant to the question. The first body paragraph gives reasons advertising can inform people about products and treatment options; the second describes how online adverts interrupt people’s viewing. However, the first view—that advertising successfully persuades people to buy—is not clearly explained, and the opposing view is presented mainly as irritation rather than as people no longer noticing adverts. Your position is also difficult to identify precisely: the introduction says advertising is important, while the conclusion acknowledges both benefits and annoyance without clearly weighing them. Develop each view with a direct explanation and a specific example, then state your judgement consistently.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting points, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “Probing further,” and “To conclude” help readers see the intended stages. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear, and some ideas are repeated rather than developed. In the second body paragraph, the point about interruptions is restated several times, while the link between advertising and health facilities in the first paragraph is abrupt. Some linking expressions, including “not only…but also,” do not connect the ideas smoothly. Organise each paragraph around one clear claim, explain it, and add a relevant example; use referencing and transitions to show how each sentence relates to the previous one.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “awareness,” “opportunities,” “treatment,” and “disturbance,” and you try to vary your wording. However, the range is limited by frequent spelling errors and inaccurate or unnatural word combinations, which sometimes make meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “high-edge innovation,” “cheapest hospitals,” “faced-edge world,” and “lovely content”; these do not express the intended ideas clearly. Repeated use of “advertising,” “people,” and “feel” also limits precision. Build a reliable set of topic-specific collocations and check spelling and word forms. Prefer straightforward, accurate phrases such as “raise awareness,” “influence purchasing decisions,” and “interrupt online videos” over ambitious expressions that are not used naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a contrast with “but” and a “not only…but also” construction. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction can make the message hard to follow. For example, “other think” needs a plural verb, “advertising adds are come” has an incorrect verb pattern, and “many people are feel bad” combines incompatible verb forms. The conclusion also contains unclear clause structure. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then join them with one clear subordinate clause. Check subject–verb agreement and use consistent patterns such as “people feel” or “people are feeling,” rather than mixing forms.
