IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many people think that they can buy more things after seeing advertisements and it is more successful way to persuade them. Some individuals also says that this is too comon because we do not pay heed to it. I strongly believe that marketing is not useful now
Moreover, by keeping the first view, most of the citizens consider that marketing is the best way to force them to purchase products. They see any advertisements of the objects and want to buy it. They go to the specific shops and get that things after checking its quality and features. It will be beneficial as we already aware to the price of that object. Sometime, these things are limited, through watching addvertisement, you can go on time to purchase it. sme people want to buy those things which their favourite influencers and celebrities use.
Furthermore, by considering the sencond view, many poeple do not pay intention to the marketing as they think it is simple way. Online shopping is common in the recent years, so on the internet it looks perfect, and influence them but when they recieve these things, they got bad quality objects. You should not rely on these advertising videos.
In my opinion, in advertisement, they show you better things, but as we are living in modern era, we like those objects which we see many time. So, advertising is the best way, but some people do not belive on social media and they ignore advertisements.
In conclusion, advertisement persuade people to purchase things but nowaday, people do not completely rely on these.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both perspectives and give a personal view, so the response is relevant to the task. The first body paragraph explains that advertisements can prompt purchases, including through product information, limited availability, and celebrity or influencer use. The second presents a contrasting concern about online adverts and disappointing product quality. However, the position is not fully consistent: you first state that marketing is “not useful now,” then call advertising “the best way.” The ideas are also only partly developed; for example, explain more clearly why widespread advertising makes people ignore it, rather than mainly describing unreliable online purchases. A clearer, consistent opinion and fuller explanation of each view would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, an opinion paragraph, and a conclusion. This gives it a recognisable overall structure, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and some links feel mechanical rather than showing how ideas relate. For instance, the point about knowing a product’s price does not clearly connect to the claim that advertising persuades people to buy. References such as “these things” and “it” can also leave the reader unsure which product or idea is meant. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the paragraph’s main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to advertising and consumer behaviour, including “persuade,” “purchase,” “influencers,” “quality,” and “features.” This is enough to communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or repetitive. “Force them to purchase” overstates the effect, while “do not pay intention to the marketing” is an unnatural expression that may slow the reader. Spelling errors such as “comon,” “addvertisement,” “sencond,” and “recieve” are noticeable. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated words such as “things” and “advertisement.” Proofreading spelling and checking phrases in context would make your meaning clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “as” and “when,” but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in agreement, articles, plurals, and verb forms: “Some individuals also says” should be “Some individuals also say,” and “they got bad quality objects” would be clearer as “they get poor-quality products.” There are also incomplete or awkward constructions, such as “It will be beneficial as we already aware to the price,” where the verb and clause structure are missing or incorrect. Punctuation is inconsistent, including the missing full stop after the opening opinion. Practise building accurate sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check agreement and verb tense.
