IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
To sell a product without an advertisement it is difficult in this time, specifically if that product has more competitors in the market. Without proper advertisement of your product you can not sell that product to you consumers.
To start with, humans tend to buy things which they feel confident into. For example there are many sound peripherals company out there making good quality of headphones, ear buds and etc. but you may have heard only few companies who make them. Only because of their advertisement and good product quality. To include, a creative advertising which takes attention of consumer can be a good opportunity to sell your product and give confidence to consumer to buy that product. Advertisement is the only way in market to show that you exist, without showing your product to people they are not going to know that what type of service you provide or what are the things you sell.
Further more, some people may get tired of seeing advertisement everywhere that they start to ignore those advertise, for example if they see same type of advertisement for a product say cloths then it is natural to ignore it because they are sick of seeing same thing again and again. It is true that many people ignore advertisement because they might be not in need to purchase those product like if you have enough cloths in your wardrobe then why you will look into clothing advertisements.
To conclude, If you want to make your product recognizable in the market then without advertisement it might be difficult to reach your audience. Also without proper advertisement of you product people might ignore your product because either their is no need to buy them or there is nothing special about your advertising.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views: advertising can help products gain recognition and consumer confidence, while repeated exposure may lead people to ignore it. Your examples about headphone brands and clothing advertisements are relevant, and your conclusion gives a position that advertising is useful for reaching an audience. However, the discussion is uneven: the first view receives more explanation, while the second is mainly explained through repetition and lack of need. Your own opinion is also implied rather than stated clearly and consistently. Some claims, such as advertising being “the only way” to show that a business exists, are too absolute and need qualification. Develop each side with a clearer explanation and make your judgement explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Sequencers such as “To start with,” “Further more,” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the opening repeats the point about selling without advertising, and the first body paragraph moves from confidence to brand recognition without clearly connecting the ideas. Some linking phrases are mechanical, while references such as “that product” and “those product” are not always clear or consistent. Organise each body paragraph around one main claim, then explain and illustrate it, and use more precise links between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “competitors,” “consumer confidence,” “recognizable,” and “ignore,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “sound peripherals” and “creative advertising.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, including “advertise” for advertisements, “sound peripherals company,” and “give confidence to consumer.” Spelling and word-form errors such as “cloths” for clothes and “advertise” as a noun are noticeable. Aim for more natural topic collocations and check whether each word is being used as a noun, verb, or adjective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional forms such as “if you have enough cloths in your wardrobe” and clauses beginning with “because.” This gives some variety, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response awkward. For example, “To sell a product without an advertisement it is difficult” has an unclear sentence structure, while “you can not sell that product to you consumers” contains incorrect pronoun forms. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “a creative advertising” and the long sentence beginning “For example there are many…” Practise building accurate sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check punctuation.
