IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modernized era of life numerious individuals think advertisement of a product is the best way to sell a product on the balanced side people says that in this era of life this type of publishment is so common that people do not pay any attention towards that in upcomming time. In my opinion, advertisement is necessary for selling a product.

On the onehand, people belive promotion of a product is necessary for selling a product. When an international brand lounches a new product they use popular calebrities like film stars and social bodies to promote their product in respone a huge amount of crowd fall toward that product and the export value of the produt surge rapidly. For instant, if imran khan promotes a clothing brand and wear this brands cloth then directly this brand sale shoots up rapidly.

On the oposite side, some humans think adverticement have no longer future in the comming years because we saw promotion reels of firms on different platform like facebook, instagram, titok, etc viewers are not intrusted in advertisment videos they skip the video or report it because they think this process is done by those firm who want more profit then that of giving a beter quality product. For example, a mulinatinal company pay more for its social advertisement then that of spending money on making its product relayable and comfertable so, people report against these companies on social plat forms.

In conclusion, both prospectives are true but social advertisement is gain most of the votes people use platforms and social bodies to promote their brandes and divert public mind towards there products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state your position in the introduction: “advertisement is necessary for selling a product.” The celebrity example also supports the view that promotion can increase sales. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The opposing view focuses mainly on people skipping or reporting social-media adverts, while the prompt’s broader claim—that advertising is so common people no longer notice it—could be explained more directly. Your conclusion says both perspectives are true but then shifts to social advertising winning “most of the votes,” which does not clearly restate your own judgement or explain why. Develop each side with a clearer explanation and make your final position consistent with the introduction.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. “On the onehand” and “On the oposite side” signal the contrast, so readers can follow the broad organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and several ideas are joined into long sentences without clear punctuation. For example, the opening sentence combines the two views and your opinion, while the celebrity example runs directly into its claimed result. The conclusion also introduces the idea that social advertising “gain[s] most of the votes” without a clear link to the earlier argument. Use clearer sentence boundaries and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-specific vocabulary, including “promote,” “international brand,” “social advertisement,” and “platform,” and you use examples relevant to advertising. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning difficult to follow. Phrases such as “balanced side,” “fall toward that product,” and “export value” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “sales” would be more suitable than “export value” in this context. Spelling errors such as “adverticement,” “calebrities,” and “comfertable” are also noticeable. Build a reliable set of collocations for advertising and consumer behaviour, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional example beginning “if Imran Khan promotes…,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in sentence structure, agreement, and verb forms occur frequently and sometimes make the reader pause. For instance, “people says” does not agree in number, and “adverticement have no longer future” has an unclear verb pattern. Several sentences join independent ideas with commas or no punctuation, as in the opening and the celebrity example, which obscures how the clauses relate. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and separating complete sentences with full stops. Then add complex clauses gradually, checking that each one remains grammatically complete.
