Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

in today's digital world, the influence of advertising on sales has become a matter of debate. people often argued that advertisments helps in increase in sales while other disagree to this that it's no longer relevant. i strongly agree with the former idea of the debate. this eassy will covers the both point of views with my own opinion at last.

people often have a point of view that dvertisement agencies are mainly used to make a hype of a product by placing billboards on the roads, paying famous celebrities to attend their product launch and then create a video of it and post it on social media. this attracts the attention of people of all ages depends on which platform they uses mainly young and middle ages generation through social media and older ones by tv or billboards or newspaper.

however, others, condended that promotions are no longer needed and have no effect on sales as it is quite old fashioned. and people now are more curious about on what they're spending their money. They also have a view that as life becoming more stressful and busy, people don't have time for watching promotional posts and then getting influenced by it.

but i strongly believe that it plays a crucial role in people's interest to develop in a particular object. even thought traditional advertising methods are now replaced with modern ones as they weren't more efficient but it shifts to the internet and people always buy things when they saw it online. secondly, social media influencers with millions od followers nowadays are hired for making reels and post it effects the sales dramatically. people see a post again and again and then it sits back in the back of theur mind ultimately results in buying that product. although the traditional advertising methods are replaced by conventional ones , the role and influence of advertisement almost doubled.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state a clear preference for the idea that advertising remains influential: “i strongly agree with the former idea” and later “i strongly believe that it plays a crucial role.” Examples such as celebrity product launches and social-media influencers are relevant. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The view that advertising is now ignored is described mainly as people being busy or careful with money, without explaining how its ubiquity makes them tune it out. Your own position is also asserted more than demonstrated; the claim that people “always buy things when they saw it online” is too broad and needs a specific, credible explanation or example. Develop each side more evenly and make the reasoning behind your conclusion clearer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a final paragraph explaining your opinion. Connectors such as “however,” “but,” and “secondly” help signal shifts. Nevertheless, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and linking can feel mechanical. The opening promises to cover both views and give an opinion “at last,” but the opinion appears in the introduction and again in the final paragraph. Some ideas are joined without a clear relationship, particularly the list of advertising channels and age groups. The final paragraph also combines traditional advertising, online purchasing, influencers, and repeated exposure in a crowded sequence. Use clearer topic sentences, group related points, and explain how each example supports the paragraph’s main claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “billboards,” “celebrities,” “social media influencers,” and “promotional posts,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “make a hype of a product,” “develop in a particular object,” and “it sits back in the back of their mind.” Spelling errors are also noticeable, including “advertisments,” “eassy,” and “condended,” and they reduce the overall accuracy of the writing. Aim for precise, natural phrases and check spelling carefully. Replacing repeated general terms such as “people” and “things” with more specific vocabulary would also make the discussion clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while,” “as,” and “although.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. For example, “advertisments helps in increase in sales” has problems with agreement and verb form, while “people always buy things when they saw it online” shifts tense inconsistently. Other examples include “as life becoming more stressful” and “which platform they uses,” where the clause structure and agreement are not controlled. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention, and the response begins sentences with lowercase letters. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and checking tense consistency before adding more complex clauses.
