Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern era, there are too many options are available to showcase products details and advertisments. On that note, numerous people argue that advertising is significantly successful at persuadinf us to purchase thing, while others believe that advertising is so normal that we no longer pay attention to it. This essay will discuss the both views and my opinion also presented further.

On the one hand, some individuals think that advertising extremely successful at persauding people to buy things. Firstly, people are easily influence by advertisments because they use very creative design and eye cathing story-line. In addition to this, they show their products in a good and healthy way they display the benefits of products which can influnece people to buy things. Moreover, company mostly display their holdings on public places like bus station, on buses, on trains because a lot of people use them daily and see them which can influnce many individuals to buy that products. Thus, these are the reasons why some people belive that advertising is extremely successful.

On the other hand, some people argue that advertising is so common, people no longer pay attention. To begin with, most of the people see advertisements daily therefore they just ignore them because seeing same advertisements repeatedly feel people bored. Moreover, in the modern technology, people can get details of any products without showing advertisements and they also watch reviews of that products so they can decide easily to do purchase or note. Hence, these are the reasons why people do not give attention to advertisements.

To conclude, some people do not give attention to the advertisements because they see them repeadtely and being bored watching it and also have more convenient option to get details of products, I still believe that advertisements are extremly successfull because they have very eye catching story line.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear personal position: the body paragraphs explain why advertising can persuade consumers and why repeated exposure may lead people to ignore it, while the conclusion states that you still consider advertising successful. The examples of creative presentation, product benefits and adverts on public transport are relevant. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that attractive storylines influence buyers would be stronger with a brief explanation of how they shape purchasing decisions. The second view could also be developed with a more specific example of how people avoid or filter adverts. The response covers the task, but the two sides are not equally developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views and a conclusion. The progression from one position to the opposing position is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand” and “To conclude” help orient the reader. This clear organisation is a strength. However, linking is somewhat formulaic: several paragraphs rely on “Moreover,” “Thus” or “Hence,” and the repeated closing phrases (“these are the reasons why…”) make the development feel mechanical. Some connections between claims could be made more explicit, particularly how seeing adverts on public transport leads to purchases. Use a wider range of referencing and transitions to make relationships between ideas clearer and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “persuading,” “benefits,” “repeatedly” and “reviews.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors are noticeable. Examples include “products details,” “eye cathing story-line,” “holdings” for products or brands, and “do purchase or note,” which makes the intended meaning less clear. Misspellings such as “advertisments,” “persuadinf” and “successfull” also reduce accuracy. Aim to learn common collocations for advertising and consumer behaviour, and check spelling carefully. More precise expressions would help you explain the ideas without relying repeatedly on “people,” “things” and “buy.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, there are recurring errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and verb forms. The opening, “there are too many options are available,” contains an unnecessary second verb; “people are easily influence” needs a passive participle; and “some people think that advertising extremely successful” is missing a verb. Other examples include “seeing same advertisements repeatedly feel people bored” and “they also watch reviews of that products,” where the sentence patterns and agreement are not controlled. These errors sometimes make the reader pause. Practise building accurate clauses with a subject and verb, and check articles, singular/plural forms and verb agreement before adding more complex ideas.
