IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued by some people that advertisement is good for buying things. Meanwhile, others argue that this is too common and nowdays we don't give any attention to it. However, in my opinion promotion of products are necessary because it directly connected to the sale of product.
On the one hand, supporters of the idea that the product promotion are highly successful to convince people to buy things because its direclty related with the people thoughts. As most of the people follow someone in their life and also want to buy same things as like them. Companies often use celebrities to advertise their products. Take the example of Samba shoes shoes, its producers mostly hunt famous personality to promote their shoe. According to Adidas company they generate almost 8 billionn revenue for the company. Thus, the supporter of this view support their findins back their analysis with valid arguments.
While on the second hand, the advocates of the view that advertising compaigns are common and they don't have any attention believe that mostly people nowadays focus on your own choice instead on relying on something. As the modernization finish all such activity like that mostly people don't rely on such activities and focus on their own choice. For example, the Pfizer medicine company don't lose much money on advertising their products rather they produce the medicine of standard quality, so most of the people prefer this company medicine rather than focus of local companies. Hence, this view also seems to carry a lot of weight.
However, in my opinion product promotion is necessary because they steel the customer attention. As in this social media era if we promote their products very well on different advertising apps thus they give better result as compared to unadvertise products.
To sum up, even though advertisement is so common that we no longer pay attention to it, but I believe that it necessary for the better sale of the products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state your opinion: the first body paragraph argues that celebrity promotion can influence buyers, while the second presents the view that people increasingly make their own choices. Your final position—that promotion remains necessary—is also clear. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The Samba shoes example is difficult to follow, and the revenue figure does not clearly show how advertising persuaded customers. The Pfizer example is also more about product quality than about why advertising is ignored. Develop each side with a direct explanation and a relevant example, and make your opinion more precise. The response meets the stated length requirement; 11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. This makes the main line of discussion reasonably easy to follow. You also use signposting such as “On the one hand,” “While on the second hand,” and “To sum up.” However, some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Thus, the supporter of this view support their findings back their analysis” does not clearly connect the example to the claim, and “As” begins explanations whose relationship to the preceding sentence is uncertain. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make each sentence’s connection explicit. Clearer topic sentences and more logical links between claims and examples would strengthen progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “celebrities,” “promote,” “modernization,” and “customer attention,” and you attempt phrases such as “carry a lot of weight.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make parts of the argument difficult to understand. Examples include “advertisement is good for buying things,” “focus on your own choice,” and “unadvertise products”; these do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “direclty,” “billionn,” and “compaigns.” Build a more precise set of phrases for discussing influence, consumer choice, and advertising effectiveness, and proofread spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “As,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction can make the reader work to understand your point. For example, “promotion of products are necessary” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “it directly connected to the sale” is missing a verb. In “As the modernization finish all such activity,” the verb form and clause structure are also incorrect. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement and tense. Shorter, accurate sentences would help you express your ideas more reliably.
