IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people believes that business sale success is lise on advertisement and some audience have opinion that its just out of trend and people ignores the advertisement most of the time. According to my perception, advertisement can be a game changer for business profits.

Now a days there is a lot of mode of advertisement such as internet, television, magazines and broachers, these all are prominent platforms of advertisements. Most of the time we do not know about the products which are selling in the market but only came to our knowledge through these channels of advertisement. if we talk about of ongoing trends then social media plays a vital role in it people usually tries to copy trends from social media influencers and with proper research and techniquies busniess can sale their products at higher level of profits because of famous infulcers.

Many forms of advertisements are now out of trends and consumers totally ignore them like making a advertisement by featuring some famous actors and just shows the advertisment on television or internet without having a proper knowledge of audience demands and interest these kinds of advertisments are less effective and most of the time are just a waste of money.

In my opinion, advertisments can be a game changer for business sale and can enagage more consumers to the products if its done through proper channels and in most effective manner. Business needs to adapt latest ways of advertising.Old school advertisment should be stopped because these advertisments are not adding positive in business instead it only weakens it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views: the second paragraph explains how advertising and social-media influencers introduce products and encourage purchases, while the third describes traditional celebrity adverts as ineffective when they do not reflect audience interests. Your own view—that advertising can improve sales when businesses choose suitable channels—is also clear. However, the discussion is uneven: the first view receives more explanation, while the claim that advertising is now ignored is narrowed mainly to poorly targeted adverts, rather than explaining more directly why people may tune out because they see advertising so often. Develop both sides with clearer reasoning and examples, and make the distinction between overexposure and ineffective advertising explicit. This would make the response more fully address the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph about advertising’s influence, a paragraph about less effective advertising, and a concluding opinion. This gives the reader a basic route through your ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several points are joined in long sentences, particularly the discussion of social media and influencers. Linking is also occasionally mechanical or unclear: “Now a days” begins a new point, while “if we talk about of ongoing trends” does not clearly connect the example to the argument. Use clearer topic sentences, divide complex points into shorter units, and make references such as “these kinds” precise. These changes would strengthen the overall progression and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “prominent platforms,” “audience demands and interest,” “influencers,” and “profits.” These choices show an effort to discuss advertising beyond very basic terms. However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are frequent enough to make some phrases difficult to interpret, as in “business sale success is lise on advertisement,” “broachers,” and “advertisments.” Some expressions are also vague or unnatural, such as “adding positive in business” and “at higher level of profits.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. For example, use “business success depends on advertising,” “brochures,” and “increase profits.” A more precise vocabulary range would make your ideas clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple statements and attempts at longer, more complex sentences, and your main position can generally be understood. However, control is inconsistent, especially in longer sentences, and errors occur frequently in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. Examples include “Many people believes,” “people ignores,” and “business needs to adapt latest ways,” where agreement or article use is faulty. The sentence beginning “Now a days there is a lot of mode…” also runs several ideas together without reliable punctuation. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and separating independent clauses with full stops or suitable conjunctions. Shorter, controlled sentences alongside carefully constructed complex ones would improve readability and grammatical accuracy.
