IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many individuals believe that advertisement is beneficial in motivating us to purchase things. The other half of the individuals believes that it is an old technique which no longer appeals us to purchase.
In todays world, with the boom of social media, advertising plays a vital role in promoting products to the community. It strongly depends on the impact of the inspiring personality to the community, who is a part of the advertise. In my perspective, it depends on the target audiance mindset either the advertise attracts their mind or left no impact.
To begin with, the evalution of social media is everywhere around the globe. From millinials to gen-z, people from all ages are addicted to social media. They business algorithm of these social platforms entirely depends on advertisement. Brands and organization who targets these generations use to run their ad campaigns on their social handles. For example, in FIFA season, we see the football players promoting every brand from clothing bussiness to the electronic gadgets. When people see their favoriates in the advertise, they show keen interest to buy those products. That's how they trap the minds of the people. On the other hand, the rest of the community think that the advertising is so common that it no longer leaves any prominent impact on the minds of the individuals. They are also right in their own perspective. If we consider the older generation, they are used to this fact that they don't idolize any personality. They are comfortable in using the products that they use from their initial days. For example, there is a community who don't want to switch from android to IOS due to their user friendliness they have with the android OS.
In addition to this, I believe that ads plays an important role in the promotion of new arrivals. For example, if I launch a product, how can I announce to the whole community about its launch? With the help of advertisement, one can run promotion campaigns on social platforms, and TV. It will instantly boost the purchase. As far as the second view is concerned, In my opionion we must target the right audience for the the product is being made. For example, if the advertisement focus on children, then the ad should be posted on the youtube channels where kids watch shows. These modern innovation tactics helps in the promotion of the products. I also believe that sale promotions also helps them to sell products.
In conclusion to this, I presume that both the views have their own impact to the audiance they target to inspire. Advertisement is good in some perspectives, but excess of advertisement will not have any positive impact. The creators should use modern innovation and marketing tactics to persuade users to buy products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You discuss both views and give a position: advertising can persuade when it reaches the right audience, but excessive exposure may have little effect. The examples of footballers promoting products and older consumers remaining loyal to Android help illustrate the contrast. Your point about advertising helping to launch a new product also supports your opinion. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The claim that advertising “will instantly boost the purchase” is asserted rather than explained, and the discussion of older consumers relies on a broad generalisation. Make your position more consistent and explicit throughout, and explain the conditions under which advertising succeeds or fails, rather than mainly describing platforms and audiences.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on the two views, a paragraph developing your opinion, and a conclusion. Examples generally follow the points they illustrate, and signposts such as “To begin with” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes uneven. The first body paragraph shifts from social-media algorithms to celebrity endorsements and then to older consumers, so the contrast could be organised more clearly. Some linking phrases, including “In addition to this” and “In conclusion to this,” feel mechanical or do not precisely express the relationship between ideas. Use clearer topic sentences and refer back to the two views consistently to make the argument flow more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “ad campaigns,” “target audience,” “sale promotions,” and “marketing tactics,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “promoting products” and “user friendliness.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the writing sound unnatural: “a part of the advertise,” “the evaluation of social media,” and “trap the minds” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “audiance,” “millinials,” and “opionion” also reduce precision. Build accuracy by checking common collocations and choosing direct expressions, for example, “part of the advertisement” or “capture consumers’ attention.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If I launch a product, how can I announce…” and clauses beginning with “When” and “If.” This gives the response some variety, and the main ideas remain understandable. However, some errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction persist. For example, “ads plays” should use a plural verb, while “the advertise attracts” has an incorrect grammatical form. In “the ad should be posted on the youtube channels where kids watch shows,” the sentence is understandable but the article and plural choices need attention. The long sentence beginning “For example, in FIFA season” also contains several clauses that would be clearer if divided. Review subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
