Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is stated that some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. However, in my opinion, while I believe, advertising is extremely successful influencing in people to buy things it is the most suitable option and I strongly agree with this point.
Nowadays advertising is extremely successful in worldwide. There are many advertises such as, beauty products, food products, business advertisment, baby care products, restaurant and local and international advertisments. While, those things are quickly influencing individuals. For example, if young children see toy or fancy food product advetisment on the TV they want to buy it and often ask their parents to buy things they see. Not only that, but also, if teenages are see the beauty product or electronic product advertisments on TV they are adicting those items. While they are influecing to buy this product. In addition, there are many social media platforms and many people are doing varity of content for the influencing people. Consequently, people who see the kind of advertising they moving to the buy those products as well.
On the other hand some people think, that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. There are different financial background people are living in Sri Lanka. So, everyone can't spent same amount for the buy products. Besides this, some individuals have different type of preferences and own opinions. At the same time, who advertising is so common that people no longer pay attention to it.
In conclusion, advertisments are extremely successful at persuading financially stable people, young adults and children to buy things. Meanwhile, different preferences and financialy unstable people are not pay attention to that advertising. So, that is common situation in a our country as well as the worldwide.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state a preference for advertising’s persuasive power, supported by examples involving children, teenagers and social media. This gives the response a relevant central argument. However, the discussion is uneven: the first view receives several examples, while the opposing view is mainly linked to differences in income and personal preferences, without explaining clearly how advertising’s ubiquity makes people ignore it. Your position is also difficult to follow in the introduction, where “while I believe” is followed by wording that does not clearly establish the contrast. The conclusion narrows the claim to financially stable people, young adults and children, a qualification not fully developed earlier. Develop both views more evenly and make your opinion consistent throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views and a conclusion. Examples are generally placed near the point they illustrate, such as the discussion of children seeing toy advertisements. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear, and several linking expressions are used inaccurately or repetitively. For instance, “While” begins sentences where no contrasting clause follows, and “Not only that, but also” does not lead to a balanced construction. The second viewpoint also shifts from advertising being ignored to people’s financial circumstances without a clear connection. Use simpler, more precise transitions and organise each paragraph around one clearly stated idea, followed by explanation and an example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “persuading,” “preferences,” “financial background” and “social media platforms,” and you attempt to describe different product categories and audiences. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, word-form and spelling errors make parts of the response difficult to understand. Examples include “advertises” for advertisements, “adicting those items,” and “varity of content.” Phrases such as “moving to the buy those products” are also unnatural and obscure the intended meaning. Aim to learn common collocations for advertising and consumer behaviour, and check spelling and word forms carefully. Reusing a smaller set of accurate expressions would be more effective than listing many product types.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including examples introduced with “if” and a contrast between the two views. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences hard to follow. For example, “if teenages are see” has an incorrect verb form, while “people who see the kind of advertising they moving” lacks a correctly formed main verb. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence construction, as in “a our country” and “everyone can't spent.” Punctuation around introductory phrases and clauses is inconsistent. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and conditional sentences first, then add linking clauses while checking that each sentence has a complete, clear structure.
