Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You address the topic by mentioning both the view that advertising persuades people and the view that it is so common that people ignore it. You also give a personal preference for mobile-phone advertisements over posters. However, the discussion is minimal: the claim that advertising is “one of the best way” to sell products is not supported with a clear example, and the opposing view is not explained in enough detail. Your opinion is present but not developed into a clear, reasoned conclusion. The response contains 223 words, below the 250-word minimum; 17 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop each view with a specific reason or example, then explain your position more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to move from the two views to your own opinion, and examples such as mobile and laptop ads, city posters, hospitals and malls are relevant to the topic. However, the response is presented as one long paragraph, so the reader cannot easily distinguish the discussion of each view from your opinion. Ideas also run together, particularly in the sentence beginning “these advertising of some thing is the great way,” and links such as “but” and “and” do not always show the relationship between points clearly. Use separate paragraphs for the two views and your opinion, and organise each paragraph around one main idea supported by an explanation.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “advertising,” “ads,” “poster,” “products” and “mobile phones,” which makes the general subject understandable. However, the range is basic and repetitive: “advertising,” “some thing” and “any thing” recur frequently, and several expressions are imprecise, such as “the best process to advertise.” Spelling errors, including “induv idual” (written as “induvidual”), “meathod,” “knoweldge” and “intrest,” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of precise terms for the topic, such as “promote,” “consumer,” “brand” and “online advertising,” and check spelling and natural word combinations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example by using “but” to introduce a contrasting view, and the reader can generally identify your main point. However, sentence structures are limited and many sentences contain frequent errors that make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For instance, “Their are many kinds of advertising that we daily look” has problems with the existential form and word order, while “when the use mobile phone” lacks a clear subject and has an incorrect verb form. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also poorly controlled, with several ideas joined into long run-on sentences. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation.
