IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
There has been an ongoing debate about whether advertisment are successful or no longer in attention. Some individual believes that in digital world advertisment being common that has been neglecting, whereas others argue that target personalization and emotional cognitive triggers became advertisement so booming. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting my own opinion.
On the one hand, target personalization advertisment method becoming prosperous in business it offer the advertisement the person looking for or that person's interests it usually being done by the social media apps like Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok and Many other apps. Further more emotional cognitive triggers advertising works in a way like in this have a emotional touch like fear, happiness etc for instance there's an advertisement about tablet of cough if we didn't take that in cough it'll become a throat cancer.
On the other hand , the neglecting of advertisement is common nowadays because in this digital world there are so many advertisement in different apps for instance on YouTube we click on a video then there is an option about skip or watch advertisement so many of us skip that. Secondly if there's no creativity in advertising like there no any fun or any lesson in Advertisement then people skip as they do today.
In conclusion, advertisement become successful because of targeting the audience's interests, while also so many ads being neglected because of no creativity no any drama.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both views and give a concluding position: targeted advertising can succeed, while repetitive or uncreative ads are often ignored. The examples of personalised social-media adverts and YouTube’s skip option are relevant. However, the discussion is only partial and the ideas are under-developed. For example, the claim that a cough-tablet advert uses fear to persuade is not clearly explained, and the conclusion largely repeats the two sides rather than stating a fully developed opinion about which is more convincing. The response also falls 13 words short of the required minimum. To strengthen the response, explain each example’s effect and make your own position explicit throughout, not only in the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the broad organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several ideas are joined in long, loosely connected sentences. For instance, the first body paragraph moves from personalisation to social-media examples and then to emotional triggers without clearly separating or developing these points. Some linking phrases, including “Further more” and “Secondly,” feel mechanical, and references such as “that” are not always clear. Use shorter, more clearly connected sentences and develop one main point at a time.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt topic-specific vocabulary, including “target personalization,” “emotional cognitive triggers,” and “creativity,” and the reader can generally identify your intended discussion. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “advertisement” and “common,” while several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “advertisment being common that has been neglecting” and “advertising works in a way like in this have a emotional touch.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “advertisment” and “Tiktok,” also reduce precision. Aim for natural collocations and vary repeated terms; for example, use “advertising,” “advertisements,” or “adverts” appropriately, and describe ads as “being ignored” rather than “being neglecting.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrastive opening and clauses introduced by “because” and “if.” However, the range is limited, and complex attempts are often faulty, so readers sometimes have to work to understand the relationships between ideas. Examples include “Some individual believes” and “advertisment being common that has been neglecting,” where agreement and verb construction are problematic, and “it offer the advertisement the person looking for,” which lacks a clear grammatical structure. Articles, plurals, and punctuation also need attention, as in “a emotional touch” and the comma spacing in “On the other hand ,”. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences before combining them with subordinate clauses.
