Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Advertising plays a vital role in buying plenty of new things. Some people argue, advertisement is extremely successful in encouraging us to buy things. While, others argue that advertisment is so common now a days. Thus, they pay no longer attention to them. In my opinion, advertising is still working as a attention seeker. Although, we sometimes ignore some adds in social media but in some cases, we get attracted towards the addvertisement and it results in buying that thing.

On the one hand, some folks think advertisement of different products develop changes in our thinking pattern and we become attracted to object. For example, in UK 90% of shopping is done online because whenever they look some beautiful and attrective adds on social media they order that thing. Moreover, advertisement companies know how to attract customers with their adds.

On the other hand, Some masses think adertisement is well-known in this era and we have no need to pay attention to them. Besides this, they ignore all adds while using social media or watching TV because they are playing with the minds of people. Although some things seem very attractive in advertisement but we know this all is just a mental game for customers.

In my perspective, advertisement still have the power of pushing people to buy things and looking adds according to our search make us more keen to order that thing.

In conclusion, people who are getting too much attractive towards adds and they order all things which they saw on add is a negative point. in Addition, they should control their this habit to buy just authentic things.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both views and state your own position: advertising can still attract people, although some advertisements are ignored. The examples about online shopping and targeted adverts are relevant, and the conclusion adds a caution about buying impulsively. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The claim that 90% of shopping in the UK is online is not explained or connected clearly to how advertising causes purchases, while the opposing view is mainly described as people ignoring adverts because they are a “mental game.” Clarify the reasons behind each view and support them with more specific explanation. Your opinion is present, but its reasoning could be made clearer and sustained more consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify the main parts of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and linking expressions are often mechanical or inaccurately used. For example, “While” begins a fragment, and “Thus” does not clearly follow from the preceding point. The final paragraph introduces a new warning about buying authentic products rather than neatly summarising the argument. Some references, such as “they” and “that thing,” are also vague. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example directly to its point, and make the conclusion reflect the views and opinion already discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “persuading,” “attracted,” “customers,” and “social media,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “advertisement,” “adds,” “attractive,” and “thing.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “advertisment,” “adertisement,” “attrective,” and “addvertisement,” which reduce accuracy. Some combinations are unnatural or imprecise, including “advertising is still working as a attention seeker” and “develop changes in our thinking pattern.” Build a more varied set of accurate terms for advertising and consumer behaviour, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “although.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “While, others argue…” is an incomplete construction, “advertisement still have” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “we look some beautiful…” is missing a grammatical element. Articles and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “a attention seeker” and the capitalisation of “Some” and “in Addition.” Practise forming complete sentences with accurate clause connections, and check agreement, articles, and punctuation. Clearer control of these basics will make your ideas easier to understand.
