Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the modern era, some people argue that advertising is is extremely successful at persuading them to purchase things while some people think that advertising is so common that they are not intrested in it.

On the one hand, some people think that advertising is so common that they no longer pay attention to it. They say that they have watched a lot of advertisment posters on diiferent places such as walls, boards and other places and now we do not give the attention on it. Additionally, some people beleive that buy things by watching ads is the wastage of money. So, they are not intrested to it. In my opinion, usually expensive things such as branded watches, clothes and perfumes are displayed. And the majority of people who do not buy things through advertising is low-middle class citizens. They are down to earth that they hardly afforad there expencess. They want to save there money.

On the other hand, some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. From my prespective, people who used to purchase goods through advertising are rich and elite class.

They consider it to be convienent purchasing via watching advertising. In addition, the elite class people want to explore more new things and they usually wear expensive and branded outfits. However, the advertising is eye catching for them and when ever they look new posters of goods they buy without looking at the price tags.

In conclusion, people who say that advertising is so common that they no longer pay attention to it are poor in auctual and want to save their money while who say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading them to buy things are generally rich and do not even hesitate spending their money on things that are advertised.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You discuss both views and give a position, particularly in the conclusion, where you associate ignoring advertising with saving money and responding to it with wealth. However, the response only partially develops the task: the explanation of why advertising persuades people is mainly that affluent consumers find it convenient and buy eye-catching products, while the opposing view is largely reduced to people seeing many posters or being unable to afford advertised goods. These claims are broad and need clearer reasoning or examples showing how advertising affects purchasing decisions. Your own opinion is also not clearly distinguished from the two views until the conclusion. Develop each side more fully and state your position explicitly in the introduction as well as the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs beginning “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This helps readers identify the two perspectives. However, progression within the body paragraphs is limited, and several points are joined mechanically with “Additionally,” “So,” and “In addition.” The shift from people ignoring advertising to the claim that they are low-middle-class citizens is abrupt, as is the move from convenience to buying without checking prices. The conclusion repeats the same rich-versus-poor contrast rather than drawing the discussion together. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and organise each paragraph around one main idea supported by a relevant example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “persuading,” “advertising,” “branded,” and “eye catching,” so the main topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, which can make the reader pause: “give the attention on it,” “the wastage of money,” and “poor in auctual” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “intrested,” “advertisment,” and “convienent” are also noticeable. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe people as paying little attention to advertisements, viewing purchases as a waste of money, or being unable to afford advertised products.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “while,” “that,” and “when,” but complex structures are often faulty and errors occur frequently. Examples include “advertising is is,” “people who used to purchase goods … are rich,” and “when ever they look new posters of goods they buy,” where verb forms, clause construction, or sentence punctuation need attention. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and agreement, as in “a lot of advertisment posters” and “the majority of people … is low-middle class citizens.” These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a subordinate clause, then check agreement, articles, and punctuation.
