IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Brands and products need advertismnets for convying their message to thier clients. few people belive that ads are extremely successful for purchasing the products. meanwhile, other think that advertising are everywhere so we dont need to rely on them. In my opinion advertising has big impact on people purchasing power.

Advertisement is now one of the powerfull tool to present any brand or product Products palcing their ads on billboards, steamers and on TV to convey thier message. For example, how international brands create their space in any country or in any culture, for that the first thing to show the product in their own cluture to attract the audience to purchase the product. for instance, Coke studio started create songs in the native lanaguage of our country which was highly succesful and now we se the product everywhere.

On the other hand, there are some drawbacks of these kind of campaigns which attract the native people to purchase the product and it was clear that its harmful for health but the ads make the product as part of culture. sometimes these ads backfire on real cause. For avoiding these issues brands need to convey thier message in real manner. however, there must be some fantsay to show product look good.

To conclude, Advertising is highly persuading us to purchase products, if the brand create campaign by keeping the customer need in mind. In contrast, if they start advertising without studying thier niche it may be disaster for them. I must say that right advertising can lead us to purchase the products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear overall view that advertising can persuade people, and you include relevant examples, particularly the discussion of Coke Studio adapting its songs for local audiences. However, the two views are not addressed equally: the claim that advertising is so common that people no longer pay attention receives little direct explanation. The paragraph beginning “On the other hand” mainly discusses harmful products and misleading campaigns, rather than explaining why audiences may ignore frequent advertising. Your position is present, but it shifts somewhat between advertising’s influence and the need for responsible campaigns. To strengthen the response, explain both viewpoints directly and develop each with a clear reason and supporting example before stating your conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs presenting contrasting points, and a conclusion, so the reader can follow its broad structure. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph moves from advertising channels to international brands and then to Coke Studio without clearly linking each point to the argument. Connectors such as “On the other hand,” “For instance,” and “To conclude” help signal stages, but some transitions are mechanical or do not accurately show the relationship between ideas. For example, the second body paragraph shifts from health concerns to advice for brands without explaining the connection. Use clearer topic sentences and make each sentence build on the previous one; also clarify references such as “these issues.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “purchasing power,” “campaigns,” “native language,” and “audience,” and the example of adapting advertising to local culture shows an effort to express specific ideas. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make parts of the response difficult to interpret. Examples include “products palcing their ads,” “create their space,” and “advertising are everywhere”; spelling errors such as “advertismnets,” “thier,” and “succesful” also recur. Aim for more precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe brands as “establishing a presence” and say that advertisements “are widespread” rather than relying on less accurate phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including the example beginning “For example, how international brands create their space…” and the conditional idea “if the brand create campaign…”. However, complex constructions are often incomplete or faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “Advertisement is now one of the powerfull tool” has problems with number and article use, while “other think that advertising are everywhere” has subject–verb agreement errors. Some sentences also run together, as in the passage about products placing ads on billboards and television. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and sentence boundaries during revision.
