IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many people believe that advetisement is a good way to attract buyers. While other think it is out-dated in recent times. This essay will discuss both points and my opinion in the end.
On the one hand, advertisement is extremely powerful to convince anyone to buy. Multiple social media plateforms are used to sale various products, hence those are quite appealing for viewers. For example if your favourite actors is advertising a shampoo on Facebook by showing his beautiful hairs it will definately attract you. Consequently, such plateforms are far worthy to attract audience to buy products. Another way of advertisement is giving good reviews after using a products. Brands are approaching to content creators those have millions of followers to sale their products by reviewing them.
On the other hand, some advertisment options are quite basic and common now in comparison with modern world. If an add is played on a plateform that has less viewership it will never meet to attract reasonable buyers.
For instance, some adds are played on radio even now a days which is no more a source of entertainmen now. As a result, advertisement fails.
In my opinion former point is true. If someone just find right audience at right place. Various advance options can attract multiples consumers such as displaying adds on bill-boards.Everyone who pass or drive through that road must see that add once or twice.
In conclusion, I would recommend to use appropriate ways to sale products by using advance apps and social media plateforms rather than using out-dated sources likes radio and newspapers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state your preference in “In my opinion former point is true,” so the response is relevant to the question. The first view is supported with examples involving social media, actors and content creators. However, the opposing view is much less developed: the point about low-viewership platforms and radio is asserted, but the essay does not explain clearly why advertising’s prevalence makes people stop noticing it. Your position also shifts toward recommending particular advertising channels rather than fully explaining why advertising remains persuasive despite being common. Develop both sides more evenly and make the central contrast explicit—for example, distinguish effective targeted advertising from repetitive ads that audiences ignore. This would make the response more complete and its ideas clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. The examples are generally placed beside the points they support. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with “For example,” “Consequently,” and “As a result” linking claims without always showing a clear logical relationship. The second-view paragraph is especially brief, and “In my opinion former point is true” does not clearly identify which view you mean. Use more precise referencing and explain how each example supports the argument; also connect your opinion directly to the two views rather than introducing billboards as a new point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “social media,” “viewership,” “content creators,” and “consumers,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce precision: “advetisement,” “plateforms,” “sale” for “sell,” and “beautiful hairs.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “far worthy to attract audience” and “meet to attract reasonable buyers.” Repetition of “advertisement” and “products” further limits flexibility. Aim to learn common advertising collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise phrases such as “target a specific audience” and “influence purchasing decisions” would help express your ideas clearly and appropriately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a conditional example beginning “If an ad is played…” and a reason-result structure with “As a result.” However, the range is limited, and attempts at longer sentences often contain errors in agreement, articles, plurals or sentence construction. For example, “While other think” lacks agreement and forms an incomplete contrast, while “your favourite actors is” has a subject–verb mismatch. In “if your favourite actors is advertising a shampoo,” the sentence also needs clearer control of its clause structure and punctuation. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a supporting clause, then check subject–verb agreement, articles and singular/plural forms. Greater accuracy would make the argument easier to follow.
