Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You cover both visuals and identify several key figures accurately, including full-time work at 52%, part-time work at 15%, and the 5%–15% salary groups for the lower income band. Your overview also notes that full-time work is the largest destination category. However, the overview’s claim that government salaries are “highest” is too broad: government has the largest share earning $100,000+, but freelance consultants also have a substantial 40% in that band. Some table comparisons are incomplete or unclear; for example, the $50,000–$74,999 figures are 15% for both government and freelance work, not simply “15 percent” without identifying both. Select and compare the main patterns more precisely to make the report more fully informative.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on graduate destinations, and a paragraph on salaries. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the two visuals. Linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “However,” and “Furthermore” help signal movement between points. At times, though, the connections are mechanical or do not express the relationship accurately; “Nevertheless” does not clearly introduce the salary table, and “The salary in private companies…” is difficult to connect to the preceding comparison. Group related salary figures together and use clearer references, such as “In the $50,000–$74,999 band,” to improve progression and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “unemployed,” and “salary,” and you attempt more specific phrases such as “full time postgrad study.” This gives you enough vocabulary to communicate the main subject. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “anthropolgy,” “depcits,” “proportation,” “goverment,” and “employement.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “salary of government sector” and “unknown work”; the chart’s category is “not known,” not a type of work. Use accurate chart labels and practise collocations such as “the proportion of graduates” and “employees in the government sector” to make comparisons clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with comparisons, for example, “The salary in private companies… more than government…” This shows some effort to vary sentence forms, but control is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make several sentences awkward or unclear. Examples include “it is observe,” which needs a passive form (“it is observed”), and “the proportion … is half,” where the sentence structure does not clearly express the intended comparison. Missing or inconsistent articles and punctuation also affect readability, as in the opening sentence and the spaces before commas and full stops. Practise accurate comparative structures and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
