IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The chart below shows what Anthropology graduates from one university did after finishing their undergraduate degree course. The table shows the salaries of the anthropologists in work after five years.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparison where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The given figure presents the type of jobs that Anthropology graduates students from a university did after graduation. Additionally, the salaries that these graduates received after five years is also arranged in the table.

Overall, most of the Anthropology graduates were hired for full-time jobs. Furthermore, half of the students who opted for the government sector received a salary of over $100,000 after 5 years, which makes it the most beneficial sector to work in.

The pie chart depicts that 52% of Anthropology students were hired for full-time jobs; moreover, part-time jobs were taken by 15% of the students, whilst 12% remained unemployed. 8% students opted for the full-time postgradate studies after graduation, and the information about another 8% of the students is unknown. The remaining 5% of the people chose to enroll in postgraduate studies along with managing a part-time job.

5 years later, 80% of people working as freelance consultants were receving a salary of over $75,000. The same was also true for the government sector employees, but this sector was more profitable because a higher number of people compared to freelance consultants received a salary over $100,000. Lastly, private companies paid an amount lower than $74,999 to 45% of the employees, and 55% received more than $75,000. Therefore, in all three sectors, most of the students received a salary of more than $75,000 after 5 years.
