Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers both the pie chart and the table, but the presentation of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, you refer to graduates as 'children', which is inappropriate for an academic report. While you identify some key features, the comparison between the categories is weak, and the data interpretation is inconsistent (e.g., the claim that 50% of graduates in the government sector have the 'most salary' is unclear). To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe data and use formal, objective language. You need to provide a clearer overview of the main trends rather than just listing percentages in a disjointed manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by poor sentence structure and a lack of cohesive devices. Many sentences are fragmented or start with 'And' or 'Where', which disrupts the flow of information. The transition between the pie chart data and the table data is abrupt. To improve, use linking words such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' to connect your ideas. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that the relationship between the sentences is explicit, rather than relying on a list-like structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and contains significant errors in word choice and collocation. Referring to university graduates as 'children' is a major lexical error that undermines the academic tone. Other issues include 'higgest' (highest) and the misuse of 'not know' to describe the 'unknown' category. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends or data comparisons effectively. You should focus on learning specific academic vocabulary for describing charts, such as 'proportion', 'sector', 'fluctuate', and 'account for', and ensure you use them in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('table show', 'graduates has') and incorrect sentence fragments ('The pie chart of what...'). The use of articles and prepositions is also inconsistent. The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors that impede clarity. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction—ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb—and proofread for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency.
