Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task, including the chart and the table. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the high percentage of full-time workers and the salary differences between sectors. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, simply listing figures rather than synthesizing the information effectively. For example, the description of the 'unknown' category as a 'mysterious case' is too informal for an academic report. To improve, focus on grouping data more logically and using more objective, analytical language to compare the sectors rather than just listing percentages for each.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally mechanical (e.g., starting multiple sentences with 'While'). The logical progression between sentences is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the chart and the table. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data comparison.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, but there are several instances of imprecise word choice and informal phrasing. For example, 'really working hard' is subjective and inappropriate for a data report, and 'getting with handsome salaries' is non-standard. Additionally, there are spelling errors such as 'anthropolgy', 'unknwon', and 'governmemt'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary related to statistics and trends, and ensure you proofread for spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'salaries... varies'), incorrect preposition use, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'It can be seem that'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and currency symbols. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence structure and subject-verb agreement.
