Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features of both the pie chart and the table. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with relevant data. However, there are significant inaccuracies in your interpretation of the table data. For example, you state that 40% of freelance consultants earned more than $10,000, but the table shows this figure for the government sector. Additionally, the claim that private sector salaries 'climbed 3 times' is not clearly supported by the data provided. To improve, ensure that you carefully cross-reference the labels in the table with the corresponding figures to avoid misreporting information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the chart and the table respectively. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moving further', and 'while' to link ideas. However, the progression within the second body paragraph is slightly confusing due to the data misinterpretations mentioned earlier. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the flow could be improved by using more varied linking phrases to connect the comparisons between the different employment sectors more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'unemployed', and 'freelance consultants'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'percenatge' and 'postgrad' (which is informal for an academic report). The phrasing 'climbed 3 times' is also slightly imprecise for describing statistical trends. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for', and ensure careful proofreading to avoid spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors that affect accuracy. For instance, 'the highest salary were paid' should be 'was paid' (subject-verb agreement), and 'the figure for full-time postgrad study and not known were same' is grammatically awkward. Additionally, there are missing articles and issues with pluralization, such as '52% graduates' instead of '52% of graduates'. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions will help improve your grammatical accuracy.
