Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the data, including the pie chart categories and the salary table. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the description of the salary table is inaccurate; the student claims only government sector employees received salary increases, which is an interpretation not supported by the data provided. Furthermore, the reporting of the pie chart data is a simple list of percentages rather than a synthesis of the information. To improve, you should focus on grouping related data points and ensuring that your observations are strictly supported by the provided figures rather than making assumptions about career progression.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore'. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions are used incorrectly or repetitively. For example, the phrase 'and in last' is non-standard and disrupts the logical progression. To reach a higher band, you should work on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that connects logically to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors, such as 'emloyes', 'govrenment', and 'Therfore', which detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1. Additionally, the phrasing is sometimes awkward, such as 'did nothing for money' and 'got increased in their salary'. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology for describing data, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', or 'remuneration', and ensure you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as '15% choose only part time work' (tense inconsistency) and 'above then one lac' (incorrect comparative structure). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly regarding the use of commas. To improve, you should practice constructing more complex sentences using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions while ensuring subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage. Focusing on accuracy in basic sentence construction will help you achieve a more stable score.
