Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both the pie chart and the table, identifying key features such as the dominance of full-time work and the salary ranges. However, the data interpretation is inconsistent and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the text mentions '50%' for part-time work, which does not align with typical chart data, and the description of salary ranges is confusingly phrased. The overview is present but lacks clarity. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that comparisons are made more logically rather than simply listing figures. The response covers the requirements but lacks the precision needed for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into a single block of text, which hinders readability. While there is an attempt at logical progression, the lack of paragraphing makes it difficult to distinguish between the overview, the pie chart analysis, and the table analysis. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'However', but they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately given the context. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when referring back to 'the students of college' or 'other learner'. Improving paragraph structure and using a wider variety of linking words would significantly enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for academic writing. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'the table chart depicts' (redundant) and 'other learner achieve the salary'. The phrasing 'perform the work by anthropology graduates' is unnatural. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'freelance consultant' and 'government sector', the overall range is limited. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive sentence structures that rely on basic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'The pie chart illustrate' and 'the proportion of full-time work are'. Additionally, sentence construction is often clunky, as seen in 'the anthropology scholars who study from one university that they perform the full-time work'. There is a limited range of complex structures, and those attempted often contain errors in punctuation or relative clause formation. Focusing on basic sentence accuracy and mastering subject-verb agreement will help improve the score significantly.
